It further includes the rehabilitation and upgrading of the Mbagathi and Kiserian Water Treatment Plants, approximately 210 kilometres of ring mains and distribution pipelines, and three storage reservoirs with a combined capacity of 3,200 cubic metres.

The investment has also provided approximately 8,300 consumer connections, rehabilitation of six existing boreholes and development of 14 new boreholes, alongside associated local water supply systems.

Completed in June 2025, the project is fully operational and is expected to improve access to reliable water supply for approximately 180,000 residents in Kajiado North and Kajiado West constituencies.

Eng. Bonnie was accompanied by the technical team from Oloolaiser Water and Sewerage Company (OWSC) and held discussions with the National Government Administration Officers (NGAO) team in Gataka and Nkaimurunya.

The Athi Water Works Development Agency (AWWDA) hosted a stakeholder engagement with Kenya Power and Lighting Company (KPLC) on the ongoing construction works for the rehabilitation of the Central Nairobi Area Water Network, under the Nairobi Water and Sanitation Project.

The project, financed jointly by the Government of Kenya and the Agence Franรงaise de Dรฉveloppement (AFD), commenced in November 2025 and covers the upgrading of approximately 74 km of existing water distribution network across Nairobi CBD, Industrial Area, Pumwani, Ngara, Starehe, Jogoo Road and Eastleigh. About 80% of the works will use trenchless technologies, including horizontal drilling and pipe bursting, to minimise surface disruption.

Given the presence of telecommunications and other utility infrastructure within the project areas, AWWDA is engaging utility operators, including KPLC, Safaricom, Telkom among others, on project information disclosure and close collaboration to safeguard existing installations and prevent service interruptions during construction.

The engagement forms part of a wider round of stakeholder consultations being held this month to keep partners informed and ensure smooth delivery of the project.
