The Principal Secretary for Water and Sanitation Julius Korir, CBS today officially opened the Stakeholders Workshop and launched the Kenya Urban Sanitation Diagnostic Report and the Programmatic Approach for Kenya's Urban Sanitation Sector.

The workshop provided a platform for stakeholders to review the status of urban sanitation in Kenya and chart a coordinated pathway towards achieving safely managed sanitation services in rapidly growing urban centres.

The PS highlighted the importance of the Africa Urban Sanitation Investment Initiative (AUSII), a new sanitation financing window being established within the African Water Facility (AWF) to support City Wide Inclusive Sanitation (CWIS) across Africa over the next 20 years. The initiative seeks to catalyse investment in urban sanitation by strengthening the enabling environment for mobilising resources from bilateral and multilateral partners, impact investors, philanthropic organisations, and other financing institutions.

With a total project cost of EUR 25.6 million (approximately KSh 3 billion), AUSII targets to mobilise EUR 320 million (about KSh 48 billion) over the next 10 years to support 50 urban sanitation projects and enable at least 15 million people to access safely managed sanitation services.

The launch marks a significant step towards accelerating sanitation investments, improving public health outcomes, and building resilient and sustainable urban communities across Kenya.
