This afternoon, I attended a meeting of leaders from the Gusii region at the Serena Hotel in Nairobi.

The meeting was convened to deliberate on the Government’s development initiatives in the region, and to identify priorities for further intervention, ahead of a forthcoming presidential tour of the region.

The meeting was attended by, among others, Hon. Joseph Nanok, Deputy Chief of Staff, Office of the President, Hon. Simba Arati, Governor, Kisii County, Senator Hon. Esther Okenyuri, and MPs Hon. Joash Nyamoko, Hon. Dorice Aburi, Hon. Alfa Miruka, Hon. Steve Mogaka, Hon. Zaheer Jhanda, Hon. Japheth Nyakundi, Hon. Daniel Manduku, Hon. Charles Onchoke, Hon. Jerusha Momanyi and Hon. Renee Nyakerario.

Our great nation has earned its place and honour in the league of nations because of the selfless and heroic deeds of many sons and daughters of our land.

Today, I was honoured to attend this year’s Mashujaa Day celebrations, presided over by His Excellency the President, Dr. William Samoei Ruto, at the Kipchoge Keino Stadium in Eldoret City.

Faith-based organizations, such as the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints, have been instrumental in enhancing access to quality education through support for infrastructure development and capacity building. They are also a critical stakeholder in education sector reform.

This afternoon, I was privileged to host a delegation from the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints, led by Elder Gerald Causse, at the Ministry’s Jogoo House B offices.

The meeting discussed ongoing collaborative initiatives between the Ministry and the Church, including in the areas of climate action, school meals, infrastructure development, values-based education and youth skilling.

Kenya was the first country in the world to establish a National School Meals Coalition, bringing together partners and actors in the school meals sphere around the same table and behind the same priorities, under the leadership of the Government.

This is in recognition of the reality that efficiency in the provision of school meals requires collective action and coordinated leadership.

This afternoon, at the Third Ministerial Meeting of the Taskforce of the School Meals Coalition in Rome, Italy, I had the honour of highlighting Kenya’s domestic approaches and sharing key lessons in the journey towards expanding the School Meals Programme.

The Government of Kenya has consistently demonstrated strong commitment to advancing school meals as a key driver of children’s wellbeing, education and sustainable food systems.

In recognition of this exceptional commitment and leadership, Kenya has today become the fourth co-chair of the global school meals coalition, alongside Brazil, Finland and France.

Earlier today, I was honoured to attend the formal unveiling of Kenya as a co-chair during the Third Ministerial Meeting of the Taskforce of the School Meals Coalition in Rome, Italy.

I was accompanied by, among others, the Ambassador of Kenya to Italy, H.E. Fredrick Matwang’a and the CEO, National Council for Nomadic Education in Kenya, Harun Yusuff.

The World Food Programme (WFP) has been Kenya’s partner in developing and promoting the School Meals Programme since 1979.

Through the School Meals Programme, the Government has ensured more vulnerable learners access education and remain in school. At the same time, the Programme has ensured support for local small-holder farmers by providing a ready market for their produce.

This morning, at the WFP Headquarters in Rome, Italy, I held a meeting with the Assistant Executive Director for Operations of the WFP, Matthew Hollingworth, with a focus on deepening our partnership especially now as Kenya works towards achieving universal school feeding.

I was accompanied by, among others, the Ambassador of Kenya to Italy, H.E. Frederick Lusambili Matwang'a.

Today, I led a tree-planting exercise at Nyangweta Forest in Kisii County.

This event marked the culmination of Mazingira Week (5th to 10th October, 2026), under the theme “Our Environment, Our Responsibility: Collective Action for Tree Growing and Environmental Stewardship.”

His Excellency the President led national celebrations in Trans Nzoia County, with Cabinet Secretaries leading similar events across the country.

The Government is committed to building a competitive, industrialising, and knowledge-based economy. Our current Medium Term Plan treats science, technology and innovation, and human capital development as enablers of that transformation.

This is why the Government is fostering regional and international partnerships in these areas to enhance capacity and perform optimally, through arrangements such as the Partnership for Skills in Applied Sciences, Engineering and Technology (PASET).

PASET is an African-led initiative that brings together African Governments in building scientific and technical capacity in Sub-Saharan Africa through focused support for scholarahip and research in science, technology and innovation.

Earlier today, I joined a virtual meeting of several African ministers and policy makers responsible for education, science, technology and innovation, in deliberating strategies for strenghthening PASET’s legal and governance framework, to enhance its performance and efficiency.
