Kenya’s High Commissioner to Uganda, H.E. Amb. Ababu Namwamba,EGH, was a special guest of the Umuukuka wa Bugisu Kingdom, His Highness Sir Jude Mike Mudoma, at the 2026 International Imbalu Festival in Mbale, Uganda.
The festival brought together the Abamaasaba community, whose cultural and historical ties transcend the borders between Uganda and Kenya, stretching from Mbale to Trans-Nzoia, Bungoma and Busia Counties.
More than 6,000 young men underwent the traditional circumcision rite of passage, in ceremonies attended by thousands of people, including a significant number of guests from Kenya.
The occasion was a powerful celebration of our shared heritage, culture and identity. While borders may define nations, they should never diminish the enduring bonds that unite our communities and peoples.
As the Swahili saying goes, “Mkosa mila ni mtumwa”, without culture and tradition, one risks losing the anchor that gives meaning and direction to life.
Our heritage is our strength. Our shared culture is our bridge. We are one people, united by history, culture and a common destiny.
