Inspector General of the National Police Service (NPS), Mr. Douglas Kanja, today, 24 August 2026, joined other senior state officers, heads of security agencies and members of the public for the 27th Kenya Prisons Service Officer Cadet passing-out parade, held at the Prisons Staff Training College (PSTC) in Ruiru, Kiambu County.
During the function, the Deputy President Hon. Prof. Kithure Kindiki, who presided over the event on behalf of His Excellency Dr. William Samoei Ruto, C.G.H., President of the Republic of Kenya and Commander-in-Chief of the Defence Forces, commended the graduating cadet officers for completing their rigorous training. He underscored that the mandate of correctional facilities extends far beyond the narrow scope of the criminal justice system and acts as a vital anchor for national security and social order, reiterating the government's unwavering commitment to transforming correctional services through progressive structural reforms.
A cohort of 36 officer cadets, drawn from various professional cadres, graduated during today's ceremony, having completed an intensive 13-month training curriculum spanning core professional competencies such as law, prison security operations, human rights and prison management, among other relevant areas.
Alongside leading the Kenya Prisons cadet pass-out ceremony, the Deputy President, Hon. Prof. Kithure Kindiki, also commissioned the newly established Wanini Kireri Magereza Level IV Hospital and flagged off 41 vehicles to expand the prison's operational fleet.
The National Police Service warmly congratulates the newly graduated prison cadets on completing their training successfully and reaffirms its strong commitment to ongoing collaboration with the Kenya Prisons Service and all key actors across the criminal justice system.
Among the dignitaries who joined the Deputy President were: the Cabinet Secretary for the Ministry of Interior and National Administration, Hon. Onesimus Kipchumba Murkomen; the Principal Secretary in the State Department for Correctional Services, Dr. Salome Beacco; the Principal Secretary in the State Department for Internal Security and National Administration, Dr. Raymond Omollo; the Kiambu Woman Representative, Hon. Anne Wamuratha; the Ruiru MP, Hon. Simon Ng'ang'a King'ara; the Commissioner General of Prisons, Mr. Patrick Aranduh; the Commandant of PSTC, Mr. David Kilundo, SACGP; and the Chairperson of the National Police Service Commission, Dr. Amani Yuda Koroma; among other dignitaries.
IG Kanja was accompanied by the Deputy Inspector General of the Kenya Police Service, Mr. Eliud Lagat; the Deputy Inspector General of the Administration Police Service, Mr. Gilbert Masengeli; the Deputy Director of the DCI, Mr. John Onyango, SAIG; and other senior NPS officers.
