ICPAK

ICPAK The Institute of Certified Public Accountants of Kenya (ICPAK) ICPAK was established in 1978 by the Accountants Act CAP 531.

Since then, ICPAK has strived to enhance its contribution and that of its members to national economic growth and development. At commencement, ICPAK secretariat was housed at KICC before it moved to Professional Centre Harambee Avenue in Nairobi in 1979. It then later moved to Red Cross Building on parliament Road in 1987. As the Institute grew, it became necessary to move to bigger premises and

later it acquired the CPA Centre on Thika Road where it relocated its offices to in 1999. In 2008, a new Accountants Act No. 15 was enacted to replace the 1978 Accountants Act to take into account the various developments that had shaped the accounting globally and in Kenya.

ICPAK ENGAGES MAKUENI UNIVERSITY COLLEGE.

On 29th May 2026, ICPAK, led by Vice Chairman FCPA Benard Amukah, paid a courtesy call to the Principal of Makueni University College, Prof. Jonathan Muema Mwania. The delegation was accompanied by members of the ICPAK Eastern Branch EXCOM led by Chairman CPA Felix Mulwa, together with members of the Secretariat.

The discussions centered on potential areas of collaboration, including partnership opportunities in professional training and research, strengthening linkages between the accounting profession and academia, mentorship and career development opportunities for students, capacity building initiatives for university staff, and support for CPA students pursuing professional and academic advancement.

The engagement also explored opportunities for joint programmes aimed at enhancing financial management, governance, and leadership skills among students and professionals, while fostering closer collaboration between ICPAK and Makueni University College.

Both parties reaffirmed their commitment to continued engagement and agreed to hold regular consultative meetings to review progress and coordinate the implementation of the agreed areas of collaboration.

Later, the ICPAK team in collaboration with Kasneb conducted a mentorship session at Wote Technical Training Institute, where students were engaged on the accounting profession, examination pathways, career development, personal development and opportunities available through the CPA qualification. The session concluded with a tree-planting exercise in support of environmental conservation efforts. ^CA

"ICPAK’s role in this conversation extends beyond tax reform. As the professional body representing accountants in Kenya, we should be demanding accountability and transparency of the billions collected through fuel levies each year, including the Petroleum Development Levy and the Road Maintenance Levy. Accountability for public revenues is not merely a technical exercise. It is a civic and moral obligation, and we intend to pursue it." CPA Prof. Elizabeth Kalunda Muvui, ICPAK Chairman

Fuel is not merely a commodity consumed at the pump. It is a strategic enabler of productivity, trade, mobility, food security, manufacturing, and public service delivery and when its price rises sharply, every sector of the economy and every household feels the strain.
