The Netherlands Ambassador to Kenya was on a field mission to Baringo and Nakuru county to appreciate collaboration with the counties, and the interventions being implemented through NL partnerships. The field mission particularly looked at the NL supported partnerships in the agri-food and water sectors that are contributing to growth and development, hence closing the gap on socio-economic challenges in these sectors.
The 3 day mission that started on 27th July 2026, involved courtesy meetings with the county government of Baringo and Nakuru, where discussions were held on development priorities, and strengthening partnerships including with private sector actors.
The Ambassador visited tomato production with support of Greentech, who supplies seed and advisory extension services to about 100 farmers in Baringo. Holland Greentech’s business model is established on a hands on approach with the farmers that builds and strengthens trust. The Ambassador visited Mumberes Farmers Cooperative that is has partnership with in improving milk quality, milk production, value addition, and strengthening cooperative’s governance structures.
The Toniok borehole, rehabilitated under the catchment to tap partnership ( , , ), was commissioned jointly by the Ambassador and Deputy Governor, during this field mission. Solarisation of the borehole has increased energy efficiency, lowered carbon footprint, and is expected to sustainably contribute to the socio-economic development of the Toniok community. A visit to the Nakuru briquette production site managed by appreciated a 13year journey of collaboration between Netherlands partnership and Nakuru county in development of the county’s sanitation value chain and transforming waste into value.
Inline with Keny's ambition to grow 15billion trees, during this mission the Ambassador had the pleasure to participate in some tree planting.
