ICT Authority CEO Jessy Maruti joined ICT and Digital Economy Principal Secretary, Eng.John Tanui, during his appearance before the Senate Standing Committee on ICT, which is chaired by Senator Allan Chesang, to deliberate on the Legislative Framework for AI Adoption and Ethics in Kenya.

During the engagement, PS Tanui outlined the Ministry's position on the National AI and Emerging Technologies Policy currently under development as the central policy framework to guide the responsible adoption of Artificial Intelligence and emerging technologies.

The policy seeks to align innovations such as blockchain, cloud computing, IoT, cybersecurity, and data governance with Kenya’s broader digital transformation agenda.

The discussions highlighted the importance of creating a progressive and predictable regulatory environment that fosters innovation, promotes trust and ethical use of AI, attracts investment, supports local talent development, and positions Kenya as a preferred destination for global technology partnerships and digital investment.

As Kenya advances the implementation of the National AI Strategy (2025–2030), ICT Authority remains committed to supporting the Government’s vision of building an inclusive, innovation-driven, and globally competitive digital economy that delivers opportunities and prosperity for all.

The session was chaired by William Kisang, and attended by Vice Chairperson Senator Miraj Abdillahi, Senator Juma Boy Issa, and Senator Beatrice Ogolla, and other senior government officials.

ICT AUTHORITY CEO JESSY MARUTI CONTINUES REGIONAL TOUR TO ASSESS IMPACT OF CONNECTIVITY PROJECTS AND ICTA SERVICE DELIVERY IN WESTERN KENYA

ICT Authority CEO Jessy Maruti continued his working tour of field offices and connectivity programmes with visits to ICT Authority offices and digital projects across Western Kenya.

During the tour, Mr Maruti joined the Speaker of the National Assembly, Hon.Moses Wetang’ula, during the handover of a school bus purchased through the NG-CDF to Friends Mikuva Senior School in Webuye East, Bungoma County. While at the institution, the CEO assessed the school’s connectivity status and preparedness for the government’s planned digital interactive learning programme aimed at enhancing digital learning in schools. Also present during the function was Webuye East MP Hon. Martin Wanyonyi, alongside other leaders.

Mr Maruti also visited the Webuye East Digital Hub and several connectivity projects, where he witnessed ongoing efforts aimed at expanding access to digital services and empowering communities through ICT. The digital hubs established across the country continue to support digital inclusion and access to ICT services for Kenyans.

In Bungoma County, the CEO was received by ICT Authority officer Nobert Mmasi, who briefed him on the progress of programmes and operations in the county.

The CEO later visited the Western Regional Office in Kakamega, where he held engagements with ICTA regional and county officers on ongoing connectivity programmes, operational challenges, and opportunities to enhance service delivery across the region. He received updates on regional operations from Western Regional ICT Authority Coordinator Seif Jowi and Kakamega County ICT Authority officer Carolyn Nekesa.

Mr Maruti commended ICTA field officers for their dedication and commitment to advancing the government’s digital transformation agenda, noting that field officers remain central to the successful implementation of connectivity programmes across the country. He assured staff that the concerns and proposals raised during the engagements would be considered as part of ongoing efforts to strengthen field operations and improve service delivery.

During the regional tour, the CEO had earlier visited North Rift region, where he toured ICT Authority county and regional offices, as well as ongoing connectivity projects in Nandi, Uasin Gishu, Trans Nzoia, and West Pokot counties to assess programme implementation and engage field officers on strengthening service delivery.

The CEO was accompanied by ICT Authority Deputy Director, Public Communications, Galgallo Fayo, alongside Charles Simiyu and Joseph Wangila from the Office of the CEO.

ICT Authority CEO Jessy Maruti Tours North Rift ICTA Offices and Connectivity Projects to Strengthen Service Delivery

ICT Authority (ICTA) CEO Jessy Maruti today while on a working tour of the North Rift region, visited ICTA county and regional offices, as well as ongoing digital connectivity projects in Nandi, Uasin Gishu, Trans Nzoia and West Pokot Counties.

The tour provided the CEO with an opportunity to witness first-hand the progress of ICT Authority programmes and engage directly with field officers on the successes, challenges and opportunities aimed at strengthening service delivery across the region.

In Nandi County, the CEO made an impromptu visit to the county offices where he interacted with ICTA officers Edwin Rotich and Enock Kosgei, appreciating their dedication and commitment to duty.

He also visited Our Lady of Peace Girls Senior School, Nandi Hills, one of the beneficiaries of the government’s Free Public WiFi programme. Deputy Principal Hellen Bitok highlighted the positive impact the connectivity has had on both teaching and learning experiences at the school.

In Nandi County, the CEO also paid a courtesy call on Mathew Kosgei, Assistant County Commissioner, who was standing in for the Deputy County Commissioner of Nandi Hills, where they discussed collaboration in supporting government digital programmes and enhancing service delivery through ICT initiatives in the region

In Eldoret, the CEO visited the regional offices and received updates on ongoing programmes from ICT Authority officer Linda Samkul before proceeding to Kitale and Kapenguria.

In West Pokot County, he was briefed on regional operations and ongoing projects by ICTA officer Philemon Rutto.

While in Trans Nzoia County, the CEO paid a courtesy call on Patrick Ombogo, Deputy County Commissioner for Trans Nzoia County, where they discussed collaboration in supporting government digital programmes and strengthening protection of critical ICT infrastructure in the region. Evans Tanui, ICT Authority Officer based in Trans Nzoia County was present.

The CEO also met officers from the National Government Administration, the Critical Infrastructure Protection Unit and the Directorate of Criminal Investigations to discuss measures aimed at curbing vandalism and theft of digital equipment that affects connectivity programmes.

Mr Maruti commended ICTA field officers for their dedication, noting that their efforts continue to play a central role in advancing the government’s digital connectivity agenda.

He encouraged closer collaboration with stakeholders and assured staff that the concerns and proposals raised during the engagements would be considered to further improve service delivery.

The CEO was accompanied by Deputy Director Public Communications at ICT Authority Galgallo Duba Fayo, alongside Charles Simiyu and Joseph Wangila from the Office of the CEO.

ICT Authority CEO Jessy Maruti today accompanied the Principal Secretary for ICT and Digital Economy, Eng. John Kipchumba Tanui, to the AI Everything Kenya X GITEX Kenya Conference, where the PS delivered a keynote address on Kenya’s digital transformation agenda and Africa’s growing role in the global Artificial Intelligence ecosystem.

The conference also highlighted the importance of creating an enabling policy and regulatory environment that supports responsible AI innovation, digital inclusion and emerging technologies.

Mr Maruti participated in a high-level panel discussion where he engaged participants on Africa’s preparedness for the AI economy and the importance of investing in digital talent, AI skills and digital infrastructure.

The CEO noted that AI is now as strategic as electricity was in the 1900s and broadband was in the 2000s, emphasizing that countries investing early in AI talent and infrastructure will shape the future global economy.

He highlighted Kenya’s progress in building an AI-ready future, citing the deployment of over 30,000 kilometers of fibre optic infrastructure, establishment of more than 2,100 public Wi-Fi hotspots, rollout of 1,450 Digital Hubs and the training of over 1.2 million Kenyans in digital skills over the last three years, and the digital curriculum among others.

The CEO further emphasized the need for Africa to develop home-grown AI solutions tailored to African realities, languages and socio-economic needs while empowering young people with future-ready skills in AI, cybersecurity, cloud computing, data science and software engineering.

The event was also graced by Nairobi Governor H.E. Sakaja Johnson who also addressed the forum. Others in attendance are Trixie LohMirmand, CEO of GITEX Global, Ambassador Philip Thigo,Kenya’s Special Envoy on Technology, ICT Authority Board member Mr Savio Wambugu, alongside policymakers, investors, innovators and global technology leaders, underscoring Kenya’s growing position as a regional digital and innovation hub.

ICTA CEO Jessy Maruti Tours Mt Kenya Hub, and Nyeri Polytechnic Digital Hub

The Government is committed to supporting young talent and creating an enabling environment for innovation and growth in the digital economy.

As part of his tour of duty in Nyeri County, ICT Authority CEO Jessy Maruti visited the Mt. Kenya Hub (M-Hub), where he witnessed young innovators exploring opportunities in cybersecurity, blockchain technology, and digital innovation.

The CEO also observed how young people are creatively transforming e-waste, plastic, and fabric materials into artistic products, including photo frames of prominent leaders, demonstrating the potential of technology and creativity in driving sustainable livelihoods.

Earlier, Mr. Maruti toured the Digital Lab at The Nyeri National Polytechnic, where he witnessed how the initiative continues to create employment opportunities for youth offering online services to clients across Kenya and beyond.

Mr. Maruti expressed his satisfaction with the growing number of youth embracing digital opportunities, noting that the Government’s plan to establish 1,450 digital hubs at the ward level, alongside the ongoing rollout of 100,000 kilometres of fibre optic infrastructure, will further unlock economic opportunities for young people across the country.

At the Mt. Kenya Hub, the CEO was received by ICTA Board Director Savio Wambugu.

ICT Authority CEO Jessy Maruti today officially closed the Interim Report Validation Workshop on the Employee Engagement Survey and Skills Gap Analysis held at The Nyeri National Polytechnic.
The workshop provided an opportunity for management to review the interim report and reflect on staff feedback, workplace wellness, professional growth, teamwork, and the importance of continuous learning in driving service excellence, among other issues.
The CEO commended staff and management for their openness and active participation throughout the process, noting that the recommendations will be considered for implementation.
The CEO said employees are one of the organisation’s greatest assets, emphasizing that management will continue strengthening internal communication, investing in capacity development, promoting diversity and inclusion, and providing the right tools and working environment for staff.
Mr. Maruti noted that the report is important in guiding the retooling of staff to ensure they have the right skills for the ever-changing digital work environment in order to perform effectively.
The engagement reaffirmed ICTA’s commitment to professionalism, innovation, ethical conduct, staff wellbeing, and a collaborative culture that supports the Authority’s mandate and Kenya’s digital transformation agenda.
Mr. Maruti, accompanied by the Directors attending the workshop, also paid a courtesy call on Chief Principal Nyeri Polytechnic, Rachel Kimani, who welcomed him to the institution. They discussed areas of collaboration, among them digital skilling and ongoing connectivity to the public institutions.
