With almost 4 million visitors in national parks alone and an overall growth of 6.2% in 2025, the Tourism sector has remained a key contributor to Kenya’s GDP. This is why the Master-planned resort cities are a key pillar of the vision. Planned for Lamu(Mokowe), Isiolo(Kipsing gap), and the Lake Turkana region(Kalokol), these cities are designed to stimulate tourism, attract investment and turn the areas into tourism growth hubs.

Action Life, in collaboration with Frontier under a U.S. Government-supported initiative, successfully convened a two-day high-level Community Engagement Workshop on “Advancing U.S. Private Sector and Defense Economics in Lamu” at Tamarind Tree Hotel, Nairobi.

The engagement brought together key stakeholders from the Lamu County Government, security agencies, Kenya Defence Forces, National Counter Terrorism Centre - Kenya LAPSSET Corridor Development Authority, private sector actors and development partners to explore practical pathways for strengthening peace, resilience, investor confidence, and sustainable economic growth in Lamu County.

Discussions focused on the blue economy, Lamu Port, LAPSSET opportunities, civil–military cooperation, and innovative community-led approaches that can transform Lamu into a secure and investment-ready economic frontier. Participants emphasized the importance of strengthening trust between communities and security actors, promoting local ownership, amplifying youth and women-led enterprises, and repositioning Lamu through positive narratives and sustainable investment partnerships.

The workshop also generated forward-looking ideas around fisheries, tourism, logistics, coconut value addition, market access, public awareness campaigns, and locally driven “Defense Economics” models that integrate security and development.
Together, we continue building a peaceful, resilient, and prosperous Lamu where communities, security actors, and investors work hand in hand to unlock opportunity for all.
