A Little about African Classics and the ladies that have built the business…
Annabelle Thom moved to Kenya 25 years ago after falling in love with the sights and sounds of the country. Leaving her fashion based job in London she began working with wildlife conservation in Malindi. However, her desire to help local craftsmen and women started her on the journey to create a range of products made i
n Kenya by Kenyans… with that Annabelle Thom the line was born. Margaret Mungai was born and educated in Nairobi and worked in various fields in Sales and Marketing before joining up with Monique Brown in 2014 to open Travellers & Roar Media. There she found her passion in design and working with the amazing line of local skilled craftsmen producing Travel Bags, Vehicle Seat Covers and Home & Garden Furniture, all the while using her amazing marketing and sales skills to build the brand. Monique Brown was born and bred in Nairobi, moved to the States for her education and missed Kenya every day that she was gone. She returned to Kenya 14 years ago and started working with East African Canvas building their small product line of cooler and travel bags as well as vehicle seat covers and tarpaulins. In 2014 Monique & Maggie had the opportunity to buy out the small product line from East African Canvas… and Travellers Gift Shop began. Early into 2017 Annabelle Thom and Travellers decide to merge forces and African Classics became the parent company to showcase an array of bespoke high end handmade bags as well as home and garden designs. With the joining of these two companies a platform was created that employs over 30 skilled craftsmen and women from Kenya, and gives the three leading ladies a larger design and production avenue. Come along with us on this exciting new journey for Annabelle, Maggie & Monique in the weeks and years to come as we continue to bring you quality workmanship with innovative designs all the while offering practical and personalized products. With Love,
The African Classics Team
