Strengthening rehabilitation. Building resilience. Promoting peace.

, through the Kenya–EU Partnership supporting the implementation of the NSPCVE, convened the Annual Psychosocial Support Network Forum in Nairobi.

The forum brought together key PCVE stakeholders drawn from the academia, security agencies, private sector, Public Benefit Organizations (PBOs) and religious institutions to validate the revised National Strategy for the Management of Returning Foreign Terrorist Fighters and Domestic Violent Extremists, while sharing lessons and best practices to strengthen psychosocial support under the DDRR framework.

Through collaboration and evidence-based approaches, we continue to build resilient communities and enhance sustainable reintegration.

Marsabit CSOs Partner with United Nations Development Programme - UNDP and National Counter Terrorism Centre - Kenya to Reintegrate Former Extremists.

​Civil Society Organizations (CSOs) in Marsabit completed a three-day intensive training on the rehabilitation and reintegration of Violent Extremist Offenders (VEOs). Sponsored by the UNDP and facilitated by the National Counter Terrorism Centre (NCTC), the workshop equipped local actors to safely manage disengagement and foster community security.

​Day 1 (Frameworks & Trends):

Participants explored regional radicalization drivers, early warning indicators, and Kenya’s National Strategy to Prevent and Counter Violent Extremism (NSPCVE).

​Day 2 (Rehabilitation & Case Management):

Focus shifted to Disengagement, Deradicalization, Rehabilitation, and Reintegration (DDRR) concepts, utilizing the Risk-Needs-Responsivity model and practical risk-management group simulations.

​Day 3 (Digital Threats & Safety):

Sessions addressed counter-cyber exploitation, field safety protocols during supervision, resource mobilization, and establishing inter-agency referral networks.

​The workshop concluded with actionable community roadmaps, strengthening Marsabit's capacity to guide former offenders back into productive civic life.

Sometimes, prevention begins with noticing.

A teacher notices a child becoming withdrawn.
A guidance counsellor notices a change in behaviour.
A school leader knows when something doesn't quite feel right.

In Isiolo County, National Counter Terrorism Centre - Kenya is strengthening these everyday points of contact through the rollout of Child Safety and Security Against Violent Extremism (CSSAVE).

Education officials, school heads, Beacon Teachers and Guidance and Counselling Teachers are being equipped to recognize early warning signs, make appropriate referrals and work with communities and security actors to protect learners from radicalization and recruitment.

The goal is simple, but significant: catch vulnerability early, respond wisely, and keep children safe.

Because sometimes, the person who can change the course of a child's story is already in the classroom.

On August 7th, Kenyan faith leaders, government officials, and international representatives gathered at Pullman Nairobi Upper Hill to honor victims of the 1998 U.S. Embassy bombing and launch the National Interfaith Forum on Preventing and Countering Violent Extremism (PCVE) alongside the National Counter Terrorism Centre - Kenya.

Core Focus Areas:

- ​Digital Adaptation: Countering online radicalization and encrypted recruitment platforms.
- ​Early Warning: Training religious leaders to identify radicalization indicators within communities.
- ​Counter-Messaging: Using authentic theological teachings to refute extremist narratives.
- ​Rehabilitation: Partnering with families to support the disengagement and reintegration of affected individuals.

​The event concluded with a wreath-laying ceremony at the August 7th Memorial Park, underscoring a unified effort between state security, civil society, and religious institutions to safeguard peace.
