The vibrant Indian diaspora in Kisumu organized a welcome ceremony for the High Commissioner at the temple complex.

High Commissioner had an engaging interaction with the members of Indian diaspora. He briefed the community on the growing 🇮🇳–🇰🇪 partnership, India’s rapid economic transformation, and the Government of India’s latest initiatives for the welfare of Indian diaspora, including enhanced consular and citizen-centric services. High Commissioner expressed appreciation for the community’s longstanding contribution to Kisii’s development.

The interactive session also provided an opportunity to address a wide range of consular queries, hear suggestions from community members, and discuss ways to further strengthen engagement between the High Commission and the diaspora.

High Commissioner visited Tabaka, Kisii—home to Africa’s largest and most renowned soapstone deposit—and witnessed the remarkable journey of Kisii soapstone from the quarries to the hands of skilled artisans who transform it into exquisite sculptures, décor and utility products.

The visit highlighted the vital role of the soapstone industry in supporting local livelihoods, preserving generations-old craftsmanship, and driving the local economy. Discussions also explored opportunities for greater value addition, including the use of Kisii soapstone in tiles and architectural applications, as well as avenues for India–Kenya collaboration in skills, design, technology and market access. 🇮🇳🤝🇰🇪

High Commissioner called on H.E. Simba Arati, Governor of Kisii County, and held productive discussions on strengthening India–Kisii cooperation in agriculture, manufacturing, healthcare, skills development and capacity building. The High Commissioner was also accorded a ceremonial Guard of Honour by the Kisii County Enforcement Officers.

They also discussed the significant contribution of the Indian diaspora to Kisii’s economy and explored opportunities to deepen partnerships in trade, investment and sustainable development for the benefit of the people of Kisii.

High Commissioner visited the Kibos Sugar & Allied Industries Ltd. in Kisumu, a leading Indian diaspora-owned enterprise that exemplifies the depth of 🇮🇳🤝🇰🇪 economic partnership.

With significant investments, hundreds of local jobs, and state-of-the-art machinery sourced from India, the company is a strong example of industrial collaboration between the two countries.

Discussions focused on expanding cooperation in the sugar sector through technology transfer, skills development, capacity building, and adoption of modern industrial practices. The High Commissioner also appreciated Kibos’ circular economy model, where by-products such as molasses and bagasse are converted into ethanol, fertilisers, paper products and other value-added products, ensuring minimal waste and greater sustainability.
