Nakuru County has partnered with Kenya Defense Forces (KDF) to train the first cohort of 21 Firefighters drawn from Nakuru City, Naivasha and Molo Sub-Counties Fire Stations. The trainees graduated today after a two weeks rigorous training at the Agriculture Training Center, Soilo.
The training focused on various Disaster reponse areas that includes Fire Command Systems, Emergency Medical Care, Structural Fire Fighting, Counter Terrorism response and personal skills such as Discipline, counseling to maintain the well being of a fire fighter's mental health, among others. The firefighters showcased their skills with a coordinated fire drill to demonstrate their capability in handling fire incidences.
County Executive for Public Service, Devolution, Citizen Engagement, Distaster Management Humanitarian Assistance Jacqueline Osoro implored on the officers to use the skills they have acquired to tackle various disasters such fires, accidents, floods among others.
The CECM has also committed that Nakuru County under the leadership of Governor Susan Kihika has plans to have fully equipped Fire Stations and Rescue Centers in all the Sub-Counties by 2027 as expounded in the County Integrated Development Plan (CIDP) launched on March 28, 2024.
Also present were the Chief Officer for Disaster Management and Humanitarian Assistance Alice Abuki, Geoffrey Kioko, Director Disaster Management and Humanitarian Assistance,Disaster Management Officer John Muchai, Chief Fire Officer Julius Yator, Assistant Fire Officer Patrick Kabue among other Department's and County officials.
