The State Department for Culture and Tourism paid a courtesy call to H.E. the Deputy Governor of Nakuru County, Hon. David Kones, as preparations gather pace for the 99th Kenya Music and Cultural Festival, scheduled for 30th November to 10th December 2026 at Menengai High School.
Hon. Kones thanked the County and National Government teams for organising the festival, which is expected to bring together participants from over 40 counties. He noted that, under the leadership of H.E. Governor Susan Kihika, the County is fully prepared to host the national event, with communities ready to support its success.
The Deputy Governor also said that the Nakuru County Music and Cultural Festivals will be held on 6th and 7th November 2026 at Shaabab Social Hall, inviting residents to showcase their talents and cultural expressions as they prepare for the national festival. He noted that the festival will promote cohesion within Nakuru and across the country, while providing visitors an opportunity to experience the County’s diverse cultures, national parks, lakes and other attractions.
Chief Officer Tourism and Culture, John Koech, reiterated that Nakuru County is ready to work closely with the State Department for Culture and Tourism to ensure the success of the festival. He encouraged residents and cultural groups to actively participate and showcase their skills and talents.
Chairperson of the Kenya National Music and Cultural Festivals, Patrick Ngere, said the festival will celebrate cultural diversity, promote peace and strengthen national unity. He noted that an estimated 40,000 participants are expected and emphasised the importance of using Kenya’s cultural diversity as a source of strength and cohesion, particularly as the country approaches the election period.
The delegation also conducted an inspection of Menengai High School, the main festival venue, as part of the early preparations for the national event.
