MENTAL HEALTH WALK | NANYUKI
Today, County leadership joined the nursing fraternity in Nanyuki for a mental health sensitisation walk ahead of the 27th Annual Scientific Conference (running Wednesday–Friday).
Led by Deputy Governor H.E. Reuben Kamuri and LHS CEC Hon. Albert Taiti, the pre-conference walk signals a growing commitment to integrate mental health into mainstream healthcare—from strengthening screening and early response systems to improving long-term care.
The initiative aims to build capacity through stronger policy implementation while leveraging data and innovation to guide inclusive, evidence-based interventions. It also places emphasis on the wellbeing of healthcare workers, recognizing workplace mental wellness as a critical part of a resilient health system, while deepening public awareness of mental health as a silent but urgent public health concern.
Discussions further highlighted emerging drivers of mental health challenges, including the growing influence of climate change on health and wellbeing.
As the conference begins, the message remains clear:
“It is okay not to be okay,”
Let’s continue to break stigma, understand the many faces and drivers of mental health conditions, and build a more responsive, people-centered health system.
