Protecting the Mt. Kenya ecosystem goes beyond the boundaries of the parkโit starts with strong partnerships with the communities living alongside it. ๐ค๐พ
The KWS Mt. Kenya National Park team recently joined a community security meeting at Mureru Area, Githima Location, Nyeri County, bringing together about 60 participants, including local administrators, elders, Nyumba Kumi representatives, community patrol teams and other community leaders.
The engagement provided a platform for open dialogue on security, wildlife conservation and human-wildlife coexistence. KWS officers sensitised participants on the KWS mandate, the importance of the Mt. Kenya ecosystem, threats facing wildlife, mitigation measures, Human-Wildlife Conflict and the wildlife compensation process.
More importantly, the meeting strengthened collaboration between KWS, government administration and the community in safeguarding wildlife and promoting peaceful coexistence between people and wildlife.
Because when communities are part of conservation, the impact goes beyond the park.๐
