NAROK COUNTY STRENGTHENS COMMITMENT TO ADOLESCENT HEALTH THROUGH A360 BRIDGE TO ACCELERATE INITIATIVE.

Narok County Department of Health today hosted a high-level A360 Bridge to Accelerate entry meeting that brought together leaders from the department of Health, Education, Gender and development sectors to champion stronger multisectoral action for adolescent and youth sexual and reproductive health (AYSRH).

The meeting served as a strategic platform for county leadership, government ministries and partners to align on sustainable solutions aimed at reducing teenage pregnancies and addressing the persistent barriers preventing adolescent girls and young women from accessing critical sexual and reproductive health information and services. Stakeholders underscored the need for integrated investments across health, education, gender, and community systems to ensure adolescents are empowered to stay healthy, remain in school, and pursue brighter futures.

The engagement also highlighted the transformative impact of the Binti Shupavu model, which has successfully expanded across hundreds of health facilities in four counties, including Narok, and transitioned into government-led implementation — marking a major milestone in sustainability and local ownership. As preparations begin for the next phase of A360 Accelerate, stakeholders issued a strong call for increased county-level budgeting for AYSRH services and strengthened commodity security to guarantee uninterrupted access to quality sexual and reproductive health services for adolescents.

Partners further reaffirmed their commitment to sustaining technical assistance, strengthening provider mentorship, enhancing community engagement and expanding referral linkages to TVET institutions and return-to-school opportunities.

THE COUNTY DEPARTMENT OF AGRICULTURE KICKS-OFF TREE PLANTING EXERCISE AS A SUSTAINABLE LAND MANAGEMENT MEASURE IN THE MAASANTARE WATERSHED AREA

The Masaantare Watershed Sustainable Land Management Project in Ololulunga Ward was identified through a Participatory Integrated Community Development (PICD) process involving 2,491 community members who identified and prioritized key environmental challenges affecting the area. A technical team used Geographic Information Systems (GIS), Remote Sensing, field assessments, and community consultations to delineate the watershed and map twelve major degradation hotspots, including soil erosion, gully formation, degraded waterways, poor vegetation cover, and surface runoff affecting farmland and ecosystem stability.

In response, Sustainable Land Management (SLM) interventions are being implemented, including terracing, farm pond construction, contour bunds, agroforestry, tree planting, riverbank pe***ng, grass establishment, and fencing of rehabilitated areas. Some activities have been completed, while others are ongoing and are expected to be finalized within the one-year implementation period.

Today, Narok County First Lady H.E. Agnes Ntutu, accompanied by the CECM for Agriculture Hon. Joyce Keshe, officiated the launch of distribution of over 5,000 Agroforestry and Fruit tree seedlings for planting within the Maasantare Watershed area at Olonini Centre in Ololulunga ward, Narok South Subcounty.

As part of the Sustainable Land Management activities, 172 Farm ponds have been constructed across Maasantare Watershed area, farm ponds which will go along way in supporting tree planting exercise across the area.

The project aims to restore degraded landscapes, improve water conservation, reduce soil erosion, and strengthen climate resilience and livelihoods within the watershed.

The event brought together several stakeholders including the Kenya Commercial Bank, Family Bank, WWF-Kenya, SACCO Representatives, and FPO Representatives among others.

Also present was the NAVCDP Coordinating Unit led by the County Project Coordinator (CPC) Mr. Livingstone Chepukel and a team from the Department of Agriculture led by the Director Irrigation, Lucina Ndiwa.
