At Solio Rhino Orphanage, every orphan rhino in our care represents hope for the future of rhino conservation.

Seeing how Njamba has grown into a magnificent young rhino is a testament to the importance of giving orphaned rhinos the care, protection and support they need to recover, thrive and, ultimately, have the best possible chance of returning to the wild.

Mud bath? Absolutely.

For Zawadi, there’s no better way to beat the heat than getting covered in mud and enjoying a moment of pure rhino bliss.

Every wallow is more than just play, it’s a natural behaviour that helps him cool down, protect his skin, and simply be a rhino.

Njamba and Zawadi getting their morning bottles from Josephine and Joseph before heading out into the sanctuary, where they will spend most of the day grazing and exploring.

For the caregivers, these moments are part of their daily routine of looking after the orphans, but they are also something more. Years of patience, trust and quiet care have created a remarkable bond between the carers and the orphans in their care.
