The best conservation lessons are not taught in a classroom. They are painted, written as poetry, argued in an essay, or modelled and danced on a stage.

That is what more than 250 young conservationists showed in Makueni County this , at the second Shujaa Zone Competition Award Ceremony. Back in May, learners from seven counties across the Tsavo Landscape submitted entries in photography, artwork, poetry, essay, best club project, best wildlife club patron, and freestyle modelling or dance. On this day, the winners were celebrated for that work, several presenting their own entries as part of the ceremony.

The scale behind this year's edition tells its own story. Applications more than doubled from the previous competition, with over 4,000 entries from learners across 137 schools, evidence of how much young people want to engage with conservation when given a platform.

Wildlife Clubs of Kenya in partnership with Kenya Wildlife Service and the Ministry of Education - Kenya were key partners in bringing this year's edition to life.

Shujaa Zone is implemented by Wildlife Clubs of Kenya in partnership with the African Wildlife Foundation, with support from Bob and Emmy King, under the four-year Young Conservation Heroes project, which supports children and young people aged 7 to 17 to learn, create and lead in conservation.

Cabinet Secretary Hon. Rebecca Miano, EGH highlighted that conservation thrives when communities and rangers work together, reaffirming the Government's commitment to investing in people, partnerships, and wildlife protection.

Governor Andrew Mwadime, recognized the importance of the Tsavo Conservation Area to the people of Taita Taveta, pointing to how community-led wildlife economy initiatives are creating livelihoods while strengthening conservation.

Director General, Prof. Erustus Kanga emphasized that today's ranger is more than a wildlife protector - they are first responders, community partners, conservation ambassadors, and often the first face of Government in remote conservation landscapes.

To every ranger safeguarding Kenya's wildlife and serving communities, we salute you. ๐Ÿ‡ฐ๐Ÿ‡ช๐Ÿ’š

Kenya Wildlife Service has recorded a threefold increase in revenue - driven by stronger marketing, improved revenue management, and the continued growth of domestic tourism.

Speaking on the milestone, during the Fixing the Nation NTV Kenya podcast live, at Tsavo West National Park, Director General Prof. Erustus Kanga emphasized that Kenyans remain the backbone of conservation, with domestic tourism now accounting for 60% of all park visits.

This year alone, 3.5 million visitors have experienced Kenya's national parks and reserves, up from 2 million, a testament to growing public appreciation for our natural heritage.

These milestones would not have been possible without the unwavering dedication of our rangers, the men and women on the frontlines who protect Kenya's wildlife and wild spaces every day.

To all our rangers, thank you for your courage, sacrifice, and service.

Happy World Ranger Day! ๐Ÿ’š

Today, we honor the brave men and women ,rangers around the world who stand on the frontlines of conservation. ๐ŸŒ๐Ÿ’š

We celebrate their courage, resilience, and unwavering commitment to protecting our wildlife and natural heritage.

From the vast landscapes of Tsavo to the hidden corners of our protected areas, rangers work tirelesslyโ€”often in challenging conditionsโ€”to safeguard endangered species, preserve ecosystems, and ensure future generations inherit a thriving planet. ๐Ÿ˜๐Ÿฆ๐ŸŒฟ

Today, we remember those who have lost their lives in the line of duty and stand in solidarity with those who continue the mission.

Letโ€™s take a moment to appreciate, support, and stand with our rangersโ€”the true guardians of the wild.

Happy World Rangers Day!
