County Government of Taita-Taveta in collaboration with Kenya Ports Authority(KPA) is conducting a Basic Fire Fighting, Prevention and Rescue Training for the County Fire and Rescue officers at Taita-Taveta University.
The training is part of the Corporate Social Responsibility(CSR) carried out by the KPA.
The training comes a few weeks after county fire fighting team underwent another training on Squad Drill, Hoses, Basic Hose handling skills and Station Routine Practical by the Kilifi County Fire Officers. The efforts are meant to strengthen the County Government's plan on improvement of service delivery in fire prevention, detection and mitigation.
Speaking during the event, the County Chief Officer(CCO) Public Works,Roads,Transport and Infrastructure, Mr. Leonard Lang'at said the training will enhance the knowledge and skills of the new Fire section team.
"We really appreciate KPA management for swiftly responding to our request for support in capacity building of our Firemen/Women on various aspects pertaining Fire and Rescue Services," Langat said.
Mr. Enock Mwakwida, the KPA fire crew team leader, said they are engaging Taita-Taveta team in a one week training intended to cover areas such as; Personal Protective Equipment, Fire Science, Legislation, Fire Station Routine Practical among other skills in order to upscale its outcomes for the community's safety.
CCO Lang'at added that the newly constructed fire station will be equipped with two Fire Engines, atleast 200,000 Litres Storage water tanks among other facilities that will enable the Department to effectively respond to disasters in a timely manner.
County Director in-charge of Roads and Transport Eng. Albert Mwatiriri appreciated the good gesture from KPA who responded to their request to train the Fire Men and Women.
" We are looking for more partnerships to move the county to the next level in matters to combat disaster in case of an emergency," Mwatiriri said.
Programmes Officer Mr. Edward Lenjo thanked Kenya Ports Authority for its CSR to facilitate and train the Fire Men and Women.
Earlier, the Senior Kenya Ports Authority Fire Officers paid a courtesy call on the County Secretary at Mwatate.
County Secretary Mr.Liverson Mghendi said that they are looking forward to more investment opportunities through public private partnerships.
" I appreciate the mutual working partnership between KPA and the County Government," said Mghendi.
In attendance were Economic Advisor to the Governor-Mr. Mathew Njoroge,KPA Fire Officers- Denis Mjomba, Rophus Mwamburi, Fredrick Osiyo among other county officers.
