Hon. Lady Justice Asenath Ongeri, the Presiding Judge of the Voi High Court, chaired the Taita Taveta County Bar-Bench Committee Meeting, which took place at Ngutuni Lodge.

In attendance were Hon. Justice Edward Wabwoto, Judge of the Environment and Land Court – Voi; Hon. Mildred Obura - (Mrs), Chief Magistrate, Head of Station at Voi Law Courts; judicial officers attached to the courts in the county; prosecutors from the Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions; advocates practicing in the courts from the LSK Taita Taveta Chapter and Mombasa Law Society; as well as other legal professionals from various organizations.

The meeting commenced with a training session led by Samuel, an officer from the International Fund for Animal Welfare (IFAW), who educated the committee on how animals and people can thrive together.
Themed "Building Climate Change Resilience in the Community Towards Better Conservation of Wildlife and Biodiversity; and Improved Investigation, Prosecution & Adjudication of Wildlife Crimes," the session highlighted the intersection between environmental conservation and justice.

Later, advocates interacted with the Judges and Judicial Officers, sharing their ideas, feedback, and updates on the operations and performance of the courts, the E-filing system, and pro-bono briefs. The discussions aimed to enhance efficiency and effectiveness in court service delivery.

It's a Taita Taveta County affair and Mediation is the way to go..
All Taita Taveta County Courts and their CUCs led by Voi High Court and Voi Environment and Land Court held a joint Mediation Outreach and Greening at Mwatate County Commissioner’s Office grounds.

Chief Guest Joy Muthoni Gitau, Executive Director of Amani Communities Africa key note address called for continuous public awareness efforts to strengthen mediation as it is the best approach to dispute resolution.

The event was graced by H.E. Christine Kilalo - Deputy Governor Taita Taveta County, Hon. Lady Justice Asenath Ongeri - Presiding Judge Voi High Court, Justice Edward Wabwoto - Judge Environment and Land Court Voi, Josephine Onunga - Taita Taveta County Commissioner, County Judicial Officers and staff, members of respective Court Users Committees, Members of Law Society of Kenya, mediators, non governmental organizations and members of the public who started off by planting trees around the compound as a Greening initiative.

The speakers urged Wananchi to embrace Court Annexed Mediation for Family, Civil and Land disputes as it promotes a win - win resolution of cases.

The event theme was "Promoting mediation embraces a People-Centered Approach to Resolving Disputes and offers Responsive Justice, upholding Article 159(2)(C) of the Constitution of Kenya.
