In accordance with the Standing Orders and through the House Business Committee, the Honourable Members of the County Assembly (MCAs) considered the following business during today's sitting.The House unanimously adopted the reports and approved the following.

1. The Report of the County Finance, Budget and Appropriations Committee on the First Supplementary Budget Estimates for the Financial Year 2025/2026.

2. The Report of the Gender, Culture, Children, Sports and Social Services Committee on the 98th National Kenya Music and Cultural Festival, held at Moi Girls Secondary School – Eldoret, in Uasin Gishu County.

The House further passed and approved:The Wajir County Supplementary Appropriation Bill, 2026.

The Assembly has now adjourned its business and will resume sitting on Tuesday, 31st March 2026 at 2:30 p.m. in line with the approved Calendar of Regular Sessions.We remain committed to transparent, accountable, and people-centered legislative oversight for the development of Wajir.

During the Sitting of the County Assembly held on Wednesday, 4th March 2026 2:30 PM, the House transacted substantive business as captured in the Order Paper.

In its First Order of Business, the House adopted the Report of the Sectoral Committee on Lands, Physical Planning, Housing and Urban Development on the Status of Survey and Town Planning in the six Sub-County Headquarters of Wajir, Bute, Habaswein, Griftu, Tarbaj and Eldas.

The adopted Report provides critical insights into the progress, challenges and policy recommendations regarding survey planning, land demarcation and urban development within the said towns, with a view to enhancing orderly growth and sustainable urban management across the County.

In a separate agenda item, the House proceeded to deliberate on the following Committee Reports:

1. The Report of the Sectoral Committee on Medical Services, Public Health and Sanitation on the Assessment of Sub-County Hospitals and selected Health Facilities within Wajir County, focusing on service delivery, infrastructure, staffing levels and essential medical supplies.

2. The Report of the Sectoral Committee on Gender, Culture, Children, Sports and Social Services on the 98th National Kenya Music and Cultural Festival held at Moi Girls Secondary School in Uasin Gishu County.

The County Assembly of Wajir convened for its afternoon Sitting on Tuesday, 3rd March 2026 at 2:30 PM, during which the House transacted substantial legislative and oversight business in accordance with its constitutional mandate.

Tabling of Papers.

The following documents were formally laid on the Table of the House:

1. The Wajir County First Supplementary Budget Estimates for the Financial Year 2025/2026.

2. The Wajir County Fiscal Strategy Paper (CFSP) 2026.

3. Report on Survey and Town Planning in the Six Sub-County Headquarters: Wajir, Bute, Habaswein, Griftu, Tarbaj and Eldas.

4. Report on the Assessment of Sub-County Hospitals and Selected Health Facilities in Wajir County.

5. Report on the 98th National Kenya Music and Cultural Festival held at Moi Girls Secondary School, Eldoret, Uasin Gishu County.

Adoption of Committee Reports.

The House further adopted the following key Committee Reports:

Report of the Trade, Tourism, Cooperative Development and Wildlife Committee on the Fact-Finding Mission regarding the Status of Fresh Produce Markets in Wajir County, which had been laid on the Table of the Assembly on 26th February 2026 at 2:30 PM.

Report of the Agriculture, Livestock, Fisheries and Veterinary Services Committee on the Rapid Drought Assessment and its Impact on Livestock in Wajir County, laid on the Table of the Assembly on Thursday, 26th February 2026 at 2:30 PM.

During the Sitting, The Wajir County Finance Bill, 2026 was read for the First Time pursuant to the Standing Orders and consequently committed to the relevant Committee on Budget and Appropriations to facilitate public participation in line with Article 196 of the Constitution of Kenya and the County Governments Act.

On 1st March 2026, the Speaker of the Wajir County Assembly Hon. Abdille Yussuf led Honourable Members of the County Assembly (MCAs) in joining H.E. the Governor of Wajir County, Hon. FCPA Ahmed Abdullahi, alongside the Chief Guest, Cabinet Secretary for Mining and Blue Economy, Hon. Ali Hassan Joho, NEP leaders, and distinguished leaders from the Coast region in witnessing the Closing and Awarding of the 4th Annual Wajir County Qur’an Competition.

The annual Qur’an Competition continues to serve as a vital platform for nurturing spiritual growth, promoting Islamic scholarship, strengthening community cohesion, and celebrating the rich cultural and religious heritage of our people. The event reflects Wajir County’s enduring commitment to faith, unity, and youth empowerment.

During the ceremony, the Speaker reaffirmed the Assembly’s dedication to institutionalizing the competition as a permanent annual fixture in the County’s official calendar. In collaboration with the Committee on Culture, Children, and Social Services, the Assembly will expedite the necessary legislative framework to ensure that the Qur’an Competition is anchored in law, guaranteeing its continuity and implementation by every successive administration.

This commitment underscores the Assembly’s resolve to preserve our religious values, promote cultural excellence, and support initiatives that strengthen the moral fabric of our society.

Wajir County Assembly Approves Fifth Session Calendar, Tables 13 Oversight Reports.

In the course of normal House proceedings and in accordance with its constitutional mandate, the County Assembly of Wajir County Assembly formally approved the Calendar of the House (Regular Sessions) for the Fifth Session of the Third County Assembly.

The approval of the House Calendar sets the legislative roadmap for the Session, outlining sitting schedules, committee business, and priority legislative and oversight activities.

In separate business, a total of thirteen (13) reports were formally tabled on the Floor of the House. Pursuant to the Standing Orders, the reports were committed to the Public Accounts Committee for scrutiny, examination, and further legislative processing.

The referral underscores the Assembly’s continued commitment to robust oversight, accountability, and prudent management of public resources.

The Wajir County Assembly today, 19th February 2026, officially resumed sittings following the long recess, marking the commencement of legislative business for the Fifth Session of the Third Assembly.

In a significant step toward operationalizing House activities, Members approved the composition of the House Business Committee (HBC) the pivotal organ responsible for scheduling and coordinating Assembly business.

The Committee will be chaired by the Speaker, Hon. Abdille Yussuf, and comprises the following leadership:

Hon. Abdirizack Dakat – Minority Leader
Hon. Abdullahi Aden Adow – Majority Whip

The Speaker of the County Assembly of Wajir, Hon. Abdille Yussuf, alongside Hon. Ibrahim Hussein Abdi MCA Wagalla/ Ganyure Ward received a delegation from the Kenya National Commission on Human Rights (KNCHR) – Wajir Office, in partnership with the Wagalla Massacre Foundation Trust, at the Speaker’s Boardroom for a consultative meeting on reparations and access to justice for victims and survivors of the Wagalla Massacre.

During the engagement, Hon. Ibrahim Hussein Abdi, together with the Wagalla Massacre Foundation Trust team and members of the public, reaffirmed their commitment to the enactment of the Reparations Bill to be tabled before the House.

The proposed legislation seeks to provide structured support and recognition for the victims and survivors of the Wagalla Massacre, as 14th February 2026 marks the 42nd Commemoration of the tragic event.

The Assembly remains steadfast in upholding justice, dignity, and historical reflection as part of its broader commitment to inclusive governance and healing.

IN PICTURES: The Leadership of the Wajir County Assembly, led by the Speaker and Chairperson of the County Assembly Service Board (CASB), Hon. Abdille Yussuf, alongside Honourable Members of the Assembly, had the distinct honour of joining NEP leaders in welcoming His Excellency Dr. William Samoei Ruto, President of the Republic of Kenya and Commander-in-Chief of the Defence Forces, together with his Deputy, Professor Kithure Kindiki, during the NYOTA Capital Disbursement event held at Wajir Stadium.

As an Assembly, we proudly applauded the Head of State for the transformative projects initiated for the people of Wajir County. These include the development of a modern stadium, strategic interventions addressing persistent power outages, the expansion of facilities at Wajir International Airport including the new terminal, and continued support for youth empowerment through Small and Medium Enterprise (SME) initiatives.

Sitting of Wednesday, 10th December 2025 – 9:00 AM.

In a duly convened morning sitting, the Honorable Members of the County Assembly considered, deliberated, and unanimously passed in its entirety the Wajir County Climate Change Bill, 2025.

This legislative milestone reflects the Assembly’s unwavering commitment to strengthening climate governance, safeguarding community resilience, and aligning the County’s legal framework with emerging environmental imperatives.

The passage of this Bill marks a significant step in anchoring climate-responsive policies within the County’s legislative architecture, thereby ensuring structured coordination, enhanced community engagement, and robust institutional mechanisms for adaptation and mitigation.

OBJECTIVE OF THE BILL

1. Establish measures for adaptation and mitigation of the effects of climate change in the County.

2. Mainstream climate change mitigation response measures and actions in the County.

3. Coordinate climate change response in the county.

4. Provide for the responsibilities of the county in regulation of carbon trading.

5. Enhance participation of communities in climate change response.

6. Repeal the Wajir County Climate Change Fund Act, 2016.
