The National Capacity Building on Career Guidance, Senior School Pathways, Tracks and Subject Choices for Grade 7, 8 and 9 Learners officially began Thursday 13th August 2026 with a Training of Trainers (ToT) session that will run through to Saturday, 15th August 2026.
Following the, training, the national trainers will depart on Sunday, 16th August, ready to commence the nationwide capacity-building exercise on Monday, 17th August 2026.
Speaking during the official opening of the training, Martha Ekirapa, the National Coordinator of the Kenya Primary Education Equity in Learning (KPEEL) Program, expressed confidence in the team selected to undertake the training. She noted that many of the trainers are the same professionals whose contribution helped facilitate the provision of classrooms that supported the seamless transition from Grade 9.
Ms. Ekirapa emphasized that KPEEL is an equity program committed to ensuring that no learner is left behind, particularly in accessing the information, guidance and support needed to make informed decisions about their education and future careers.
The training was officially opened by the CEO KEMI, Dr. Maurice Odondo. In his opening remarks Dr. Odondo, urged the Trainers to undertake the assignment with diligence and commitment, emphasizing the significance of their role in shaping the future career paths of learners. He noted that the decisions learners make at this stage can have far-reaching implications, not only for their individual futures but also for the country's human capital development and, by extension, the global economic landscape.
The national capacity-building exercise is expected to equip teachers, school leaders and other key stakeholders with the knowledge and resources required to effectively guide Grade 7, 8 and 9 learners in making informed choices on Senior School pathways, tracks and subjects.
