It is apparent that our education standards need urgent intervention. As Taita Taveta County leadership we must look for ways of addressing the poor performance in our schools. Mentorship is one way of contributing positively to alleviating the poor standards and addressing the importance of education in our community. God has put you in a position of influence for a purpose. The opportunity each
one of us has can influence change painlessly in our schools. If each one of us can take up one school and offer support to elevate the standards of the school we will make a difference. This can be done through mentorship program, advisory services, enabling the schools to benchmark with other schools outside the county to enhance performance and through any other initiative. The new constitution has given sovereign power to the people of Kenya. Art 174(c) (d) recognizes the fact that devolution should allow people to participate in decision making and empowers communities to manage their own affairs in matters affecting them. We as Taita Taveta residents must realize that the solution to improving own standards of education is with us. We need to help our people realize this by talking to them, and giving whatever help you may wish to enhance the education of the children. The reason we need to know which school you have adopted is to monitor distribution across our county for purposes of ensuring each region is reached.
