The Coast region is set to host the 11th Our Ocean Conference, with Lakes Jipe and Chala positioning Taita Taveta County as a key player in the blue economy.
Speaking today during a high-level delegation meeting ahead of the first-ever Our Ocean Conference to be held in Africa, H.E Dr. Andrew Mwadime - Wakujaa, EGH, Governor Taita Taveta County called on investors and development partners to help unlock the countyโs vast economic potential in the blue economy and tourism sectors through its rich inland water resources and unique attractions.
โTaita Taveta boasts significant inland water bodies, including the two freshwater lakes โ Jipe and Chala โ which present enormous opportunities within the blue economy sector. The county also hosts unique tourism attractions such as the Tsavo National Park ecosystem, Taita Hills, Mzima Springs, and the historic World War I sites in Taveta,โ said Governor Wakujaa.
The conference, themed โOur Ocean, Our Heritage, Our Future,โ will take place in Mombasa from June 14โ18, 2026, bringing together more than 3,500 delegates from across the globe, including over 30 Heads of State, investors, environmental experts, youth groups, and policy leaders.
