GGGI Team Visits VP.Start Campus and EDC to Explore Technology-Driven Solutions for grid modernization and energy efficiency.

The GGGI Cambodia team, led by Country Representative Ms. Nathalie Andre and Project Manager Mr. Md Mahfuzur Rahman visited VP.Start Campus and Electricité du Cambodge (EDC) to explore practical, technology-driven solutions for grid modernization and energy efficiency.

During the visit, the team gained firsthand insights into VP.Start Campus’s digital solutions for real-time grid monitoring and control. To see these solutions in action, the team visited an installation site and EDC’s control room, where they heard directly from EDC as an end-user about how the technology helps optimize power distribution, reduce energy waste, and improve operational cost efficiency.

The visit provided valuable insights into technology-driven approaches to energy efficiency while strengthening partnerships toward more sustainable and climate-smart energy infrastructure in Cambodia.

Advancing Nexus approach to address regional challenges in the Mekong Subregion

At the Mekong Forum 2026, GGGI co-organized a technical session, sharing our experience and ongoing initiatives to address transboundary haze faced by countries in the region. The forum explored how nexus thinking can strengthen regional cooperation and deliver more integrated solutions for sustainable development.

GGGI proposed an initiative aimed at generating value from agricultural waste, providing viable alternatives to open burning in agriculture, which is a major contributor to air pollution in the region. The initiative seeks to unlock investments in residue-to-value solutions, creating economic opportunities while reducing open burning and its impact on air quality and public health.

Hosted by the Mekong Institute, the forum brought together more than 300 policymakers, development partners, private sector representatives, researchers, and civil society leaders.

The Asia Low Carbon Buildings Transition (ALCBT) Project just conducted two practical training sessions at the Ministry of Land Management, Urban Planning and Construction (MLMUPC).

The BEAT training was opened by H.E. Ros Salin, Secretary of State of MLMUPC, while the MRV training was opened by Mr. Yan Vandeluxe, Deputy Director General of MLMUPC. Both sessions concluded with closing remarks and the presentation of certificates to participants.

Participants learned to use the Building Emission Assessment Tool (BEAT) to assess embodied and operational carbon at the building level, as well as the Monitoring, Reporting and Verification (MRV) Tool to analyse building-sector emissions and decarbonization scenarios.

The trainings equipped government officials, policymakers and building-sector professionals with practical tools to support evidence-based planning and accelerate Cambodia’s transition towards low-carbon buildings.

🌿 Green Finance Network (GFN) Cambodia Holds Inaugural Meeting to Unlock Investment in Green Buildings

On 31 July 2026, the Association of Banks in Cambodia (ABC), in partnership with the Global Green Growth Institute (GGGI), officially convened the inaugural meeting of the Green Finance Network (GFN) Cambodia under the Asia Low Carbon Buildings Transition (ALCBT) Project.

Bringing together around 50 representatives from Cambodia's financial sector, the meeting marked an important milestone in strengthening collaboration to mobilize investment for low-carbon buildings.

Together, GFN Cambodia is laying the foundation for a more sustainable, resilient, and low-carbon built environment in Cambodia.

Advancing Korea–Cambodia cooperation for green growth

GGGI Executive Director Mr. Sang-Hyup Kim recently met with H.E. Kim Chang-yong, Ambassador of the Republic of Korea to Cambodia, to discuss the growing role of Korean climate technology and innovation in supporting Cambodia’s green growth and climate priorities.

Their discussion covered sustainable development, carbon neutrality, Article 6 cooperation, and the potential of artificial intelligence to strengthen climate action.

A key highlight was the Climate Technology Accelerator Fund, jointly established by GGGI and Korea’s Ministry of Science and ICT. A Cambodia-led AI-based smart-grid initiative was recently selected among 10 projects supported globally and will demonstrate its technology in partnership with Electricité du Laos, helping build evidence for future investment and wider application across Southeast Asia.

The meeting formed part of Executive Director Kim’s official mission to Cambodia and reflected the growing momentum of Korean climate innovation in the supporting country’s climate action priority.
