SKNDF RESERVE FORCE ANNUAL SUMMER TRAINING CAMP 2026

“Balancing the Citizen-Soldier’s Life with Operational Readiness.”

From 8–15 August 2026, members of the St Kitts Nevis Defence Force (SKNDF) Reserves participated in their Annual Summer Training Camp at the Deane Glasford Primary School.

The camp provided Reservists with an opportunity to enhance operational readiness, maintain qualifications, sharpen tactical proficiency, and uphold the professional standards expected of all SKNDF personnel.

Training activities included military refresher training, practical and tactical exercises, first aid, personal and professional development sessions, and exposure to modern military practices. These activities were designed to strengthen individual capabilities, teamwork, and the overall effectiveness of the Reserve Force.

The Reserve Force is an integral component of the SKNDF, providing trained personnel capable of supporting the Force’s response mechanisms and to serve the Federation when called upon. Service in the Reserves offers citizens an opportunity to serve the country professionally, develop valuable skills, contribute to national security, and balance military service with civilian careers simultaneously.

The Commander (Ag) of the SKNDF and Officer Commanding the Reserve Force encourages all Reserce members to remain committed to continuous training, professional development, and maintaining a high state of readiness. The Force also invites patriotic and suitably qualified individuals to consider joining the Reserves and contribute to the defence and security of our beloved Federation.

Volunteer. Train. Serve.

SKNDF CONCLUDES 29TH ANNIVERSARY CELEBRATIONS BY HONOURING THOSE WHO SERVED

The St Kitts Nevis Defence Force (SKNDF) officially concluded its 29th Anniversary celebrations by honouring former members whose dedication and service helped lay the foundation for the Force we have today.

Force Acting Commander Major Kayode Sutton, accompanied by Lieutenant Zenra Ferdinand, Warrant Officer Class One St Clair Williams, and other members of the Force, visited former soldiers Former Private Margaret Richards and Former Private Lorenzo Jackson, presenting care packages and essential everyday items.

The visits served as a meaningful reminder that service does not end when the uniform comes off. The SKNDF remains committed to honouring its veterans, preserving their legacy, and ensuring that those who served are not forgotten.

Major Sutton also announced plans to establish a Veterans Affairs Department to register former members, engage those who can continue contributing to the Force, and provide support to veterans who may require assistance.

“The strength of a Force is measured not only by those currently in uniform, but by how we care for those who wore it before us,” Major Sutton added.

The St. Kitts Nevis Defence Force extends gratitude to all past and present members for their service and reaffirms its commitment to upholding the welfare of the SKNDF family.

As the SKNDF closed out its 29th Anniversary celebrations, the Force salutes all past and present members whose service continues to shape its future.

Service Above Self: 29 Years of Safeguarding the Federation.

HAPPY EMANCIPATION DAY

Today, 1 August 2026, the St Kitts Nevis Defence Force joins the people of St Kitts and Nevis and communities across the Caribbean in commemorating Emancipation Day.

We honour the generations who endured the hardships, injustices and struggles of enslavement, and we remember the courage, resilience and sacrifices of those who fought for freedom, dignity and equality. Their struggles laid the foundation for the freedoms and opportunities we have today.

Emancipation is more than a remembrance of the past—it is a reminder of our responsibility to protect the rights, dignity and well-being of our people and to build a stronger, safer and more united Federation.

As a national institution, the St Kitts Nevis Defence Force remains committed to serving and protecting the people of St Kitts and Nevis, upholding our duty with courage, professionalism and dedication.

Today, we celebrate freedom, honour our history and look toward the future with pride and purpose.

Happy Emancipation Day, St Kitts and Nevis!
Happy Emancipation Day to our brothers and sisters across the Caribbean!

REMEMBERING THE M.V. CHRISTENA — 56 YEARS LATER

1 AUGUST 1970 | 1 AUGUST 2026

Fifty-six years ago today, our Federation was struck by one of the darkest tragedies in its maritime history.

The M.V. Christena sank in The Narrows, taking the lives of many of our people and leaving a wound that remains part of our national memory.
In the immediate aftermath, the St Kitts Nevis Angulla Defence Force (SKNADF) Reserves was embodied and mobilised to assist with the recovery operation. Reserve personnel ventured into the seas to recover those who had unfortunately succumbed, while others assisted on shore, loading the recovered bodies onto organized transportation to burial site.

It was difficult, painful and solemn work in times of national emergencies and even today we remember and honor them— service above self.

That legacy of service continues today.
Through its Coast Guard, the St Kitts Nevis Defence Force (SKNDF) is poised for enhanced Maritime Domain Awareness in the protection and safeguarding of life and property at sea. Our personnel stand ready to respond to maritime emergencies, conduct proactive life saving at sea awareness training, search and rescue operations and other maritime emergency response operations.

The loss of the M.V. Christena reminds us that behind every vessel, every journey and every call for assistance are human lives — families, loved ones and communities.

We remember those who were lost.
We honour those who served in the aftermath.
We recognise the lessons learned and carried forward.
And we reaffirm our commitment to duty and the safety and protection of life at sea.
