🌍 FAO Special Lecture Successfully Held!

KNU KOICA-SP Program hosted a special lecture with Assistant FAO Representative Nara Lee and Programme Assistant Juyeon Han from the FAO Partnership and Liaison Office in the Republic of Korea.

The session provided valuable insights into FAO’s work in addressing global food challenges, its activities in the ROK, and ongoing efforts toward sustainable agrifood systems.

Participants actively engaged in a meaningful Q&A session, raising thoughtful questions on topics such as cross-country collaboration, FAO initiatives, and global food security.

We sincerely thank Assistant FAO Representative Nara Lee and Programme Assistant Juyeon Han for their valuable lecture and support.

KNU KOICA-SP will continue to provide programs that strengthen global capacity.

KNU KOICA-SP 프로그램은 FAO 한국 사무소의 이나라 부소장님과 한주연 전문관님을 모시고 특별강연을 진행하였습니다.

이번 강연에서는 글로벌 식량 문제 대응을 위한 FAO의 역할과 한국에서의 활동, 그리고 지속가능한 농식품 시스템 구축을 위한 다양한 노력을 살펴볼 수 있었습니다.

또한 연수생들의 적극적인 참여 속에서 의미 있는 질의응답이 이루어졌으며, 국가 간 협력, FAO 주요 프로그램, 식량 안보 등 다양한 주제에 대한 심도 있는 논의가 이어졌습니다.

🌿 Field Trip to Hongcheon | Agriculture & Forest Learning Day 🌽

The trainees of the KOICA-KNU SP Program participated in a field trip to Hongcheon, gaining valuable insights into both agriculture and forestry.

At the Hongcheon Corn Research Institute, the session was led by Ryu Si-hwan (Director, Dr. Ryu), who introduced corn breeding and cultivation techniques, providing practical insights into agricultural research.

The terrarium activity and forest interpretation session were conducted by Ko Yoon-sik (Former Director General of the Agriculture, Livestock and Food Bureau, Gangwon Province), offering participants an in-depth understanding of forest ecology, management, and environmental conservation.

This field trip provided a meaningful opportunity to explore the connection between agriculture and forestry, while fostering a broader perspective on sustainability.

KOICA-KNU SP 프로그램 연수생들은 홍천에서 진행된 현장학습을 통해 농업과 산림을 아우르는 다양한 경험을 쌓았습니다.

홍천 옥수수 연구소에서는 류시환 박사님(소장님)의 설명을 통해 옥수수 품종 개발 및 재배 기술 등 농업 연구의 실제를 학습하였습니다.

이어 고윤식 전 강원도청 농축산식품국 국장님께서 숲 해설 프로그램을 직접 진행해 주셨으며, 이를 통해 산림 생태와 관리의 중요성을 배우고 자연과의 조화를 체험할 수 있었습니다. 연계하여 한 선생님과 함께 작은 생태계를 만들어보는 테라리움 만들기를 체험하였습니다.

이번 현장학습은 농업과 산림의 연계를 이해하고, 지속가능한 미래를 위한 통합적 시각을 넓히는 뜻깊은 시간이었습니다.

🌿 Tomorrow’s Field Learning – Agriculture & Nature 🌿

Tomorrow, our trainees will visit the Hongcheon Corn Research Institute to learn about agricultural research and experience crop cultivation firsthand.

Next, at Deulpul Studio and Rustic Life, we will engage in terrarium-making and a forest interpretation session to learn about plants, forest ecology, and seasonal changes.
Notably, Rustic Life is a nature-preserving space created by an ordinary person who learned through a government forestry training program, showing that anyone can design and manage a sustainable, nature-friendly space after proper training.

Participants will also enjoy coffee and refreshments in this natural setting, experiencing firsthand the harmony of agriculture and forestry while expanding their learning.

[Upcoming Special Lecture]

We are excited to welcome the Assistant FAO Representative at FAO Partnership and Liaison Office in the Republic of Korea for a special lecture at Kangwon National University!

The session will introduce the role and work of FAO, highlighting its contributions to global agricultural development.

As many of our trainees are actively engaged with international organizations, including FAO, as well as NGOs, this lecture will offer valuable insights into international cooperation and potential collaboration with FAO.

[February Field Trip]

Our trainees recently completed the February Field Trip, visiting several smart farm sites in Korea.

During the visit, they explored:

1. Smart Farm Training Center, Kangwon National University
2. Appropriate Technology-Based Smart Farm in Chuncheon (Chorok Dalkomi Farm)
3. Yanggu Public Rental Smart Farm(Yanggu Agricultural Technology Center)

Through this field trip, trainees learned about smart farm technologies, low-cost smart farm models based on appropriate technology, and policy support systems for smart farm development.

This field trip provided an opportunity for trainees to explore smart farm models applicable to their home countries and to gain insights into sustainable agricultural development.

🌍 This program is aligned with the UN SDGs, particularly SDG 2, SDG 8, and SDG 9.

연수생들은 2월 Field Trip을 통해 한국의 스마트팜 사례를 방문했습니다.

이번 방문에서는 다음의 장소를 탐방했습니다.

1. 강원대학교 스마트팜 교육장
2. 춘천 적정기술 활용 스마트팜 (초록 달코미네 농장)
3. 양구 임대형 스마트팜 (양구농업기술센터)

연수생들은 이번 Field Trip을 통해 스마트팜 기술, 적정기술 기반 저비용 스마트팜 모델, 그리고 스마트팜 활성화를 위한 정책 지원 체계에 대해 학습했습니다.

이번 현장학습은 연수생들이 자국에 적용 가능한 스마트팜 모델을 탐색하고 지속가능한 농업 발전에 대한 인사이트를 얻는 기회가 되었습니다.

With weekly meetings, peer learning, and collaborative support, the groups aim to strengthen academic motivation and build a strong SP community at Kangwon National University.

SP Program 연수생들이 2026년 봄학기 스터디 그룹 활동을 시작했습니다!

연수생들은 주 1회 이상 정기적인 모임을 통해 함께 공부하고 서로 도움을 주며 학업 성취도를 높이고, 강원대학교에서의 학습 공동체를 만들어갈 예정입니다.

또한 학생 투표 결과를 최대한 반영하여 3명의 스터디 그룹 리더가 선정되었으며, 각 그룹은 한 학기 동안 협력 학습 활동을 진행하게 됩니다.

🌱 Smart Agriculture Field Study | Kangwon National University
Our trainees will explore Korea’s smart farming ecosystem through visits to a university training center, an appropriate technology-based farm, and a public rental smart farm.
They will examine how smart agriculture is developed through education, applied in the field, and supported by public policy — gaining practical insights to adapt these models in their home countries.

❄️ Learning Value Creation through Nature and Primary Industries

KOICA–KNU SP trainees directly observed how a well-known winter regional festival in Korea creates added value from primary industry resources and increases small-scale farmers’ income through a local currency system.
Through a policy that refunds part of the entrance fee in local currency, trainees experienced a real example of responsible consumption and a circular local economy (SDGs 12).
By using local currency to purchase local agricultural and fisheries products, they learned how producing and consuming locally contributes to inclusive local economic growth (SDGs 2.3).
The visit also enhanced their understanding of how seasonal and climate characteristics can be used as tourism assets to promote sustainable tourism and strengthen local identity (SDGs 8.9, 11.4).

❄️ 자연 환경과 1차 산업을 활용한 부가가치 창출 사례 현장 체험

KOICA–KNU SP 연수생들은 한국을 대표하는 겨울 지역 축제를 통한 1차 산업 자원의 부가가치 창출과 지역 화폐를 통한 소규모 농민의 소득 증대 모델을 현장에서 직접 확인했습니다.
입장권 일부를 지역 화폐로 환급하는 정책을 체험하며, 책임 있는 소비와 지역 순환경제(SDGs 12)가 실제로 작동하는 사례를 경험할 수 있었습니다.
또한, 연수생들은 지역 화폐를 활용해 지역 농·수산물을 구매하는 구조를 직접 체험 및 관찰하며, 지역에서 생산하고 소비하는 체계를 통한 포용적 지역경제 성장(SDGs 2.3)의 가능성을 학습했습니다.
더불어 계절·기후적 특성을 관광자원으로 활용하여 지속가능한 관광과 지역 정체성 강화(SDGs 8.9, 11.4)를 실현하는 지역 발전 방안에 대한 이해를 높였습니다.

[2026 January field trip]
Through the January 2026 field trip, the KOICA KNU SP Program gives trainees a chance to experience the Hwacheon Sancheoneo Ice Festival, a well-known winter festival in Korea.
Through this experience, trainees can better understand how local economies in agricultural and rural areas are strengthened. They can also learn how primary industries are used as tourism resources and see local economic development models on site.

KOICA KNU SP사업단은, 이번 2026년 1월 필드 트립을 통해 연수생들이 한국의 대표적인 겨울철 지역축제인 화천 산천어 축제를 직접 체험함으로써 한국 농·산촌 지역의 지역경제 활성화 전략과 1차 산업을 활용한 관광자원 활용 방식에 대한 이해를 증진, 지역 기반 경제발전 모델을 현장에서 학습할 수 있는 기회를 가지고자 합니다.
