USAG Daegu Fire Department Hosts Historic 9/11 Ceremony

Under the leadership of our Acting Fire Chief Chong (TJ), we hosted one of the most successful and moving 9/11 ceremonies in USAG Daegu history. Over 500 attendees came together to honor and pay tribute on this solemn occasion.

We were honored to have Professor Kim as our keynote speaker, where he gave a powerful and heartfelt account of the horrific events that unfolded in New York on that tragic day. His words reminded us all of the importance of remembrance and resilience.

A heartfelt thank you to our garrison command team, MWR, Red Cross, USO, Navy Federal, Scouts of America, Boy Scouts, AFN, 19th ESC, ASAP, and all the brigades, battalions, companies, and units, as well as every supporter who played a role in making this event truly meaningful.

Most importantly, thank you to the families of our Soldiers and the entire Area IV community, your presence and support are what made this ceremony so impactful. We could not have done it without you.

Never forget. 🇺🇸

USAG Daegu Fire Department – Always Ready

Today, our heroes answered a very unique call at one of our housing towers. A family’s very large dog had accidentally engaged the door’s locking safety device on the front door, locking everyone out. The housing office tried everything, but nothing worked.

In true USAG Daegu Fire fashion, giving up was not an option. Since our ladder truck couldn’t reach the balcony, we got creative. With the help of a local moving company, two of our finest, Crew Chief Yi and Firefighter Kang, were hoisted to the balcony. They climbed, gained entry through the balcony, and reunited the family with their four-legged friend.

Whether it’s fire, rescue, or even man’s best friend causing a little trouble, our mission is the same: to answer every call, big or small. Once again, USAG Daegu Fire Department rose to the challenge, and saved the day.

A Hero Among Us - Off Duty, Never Off Mission

This morning, our firehouse was honored by the presence of our Garrison Command Team and DES Director, not for a scheduled inspection or a routine meeting, but for something far more profound: to recognize Mr. Kang Min Chae, a quiet guardian who proved that true bravery never clocks out.

While off duty and spending precious time with his family at Busan Costco, Mr. Kang witnessed an elderly woman in a life-threatening situation, choking, gasping, helpless. Without pause, without fanfare, he stepped forward and performed the Heimlich maneuver, dislodging the obstruction and restoring her breath… her life.

That moment wasn’t just a testament to his training; it reflected his character. Courage showed up dressed in jeans, not turnout gear. And in that instant, Mr. Kang didn’t just represent the USAG Daegu Fire Department, he represented the heart of public service, the kind that sees beyond uniforms and job titles.

Today, we stood together to honor him not only as a firefighter, but as a protector of life, a model of compassion, and a true hero of our community.

Mr. Kang, we are proud to serve beside you. In the absence of orders, you chose resolve over silence, reminding us that true courage isn't commanded, it's instinctive.

Let’s never forget heroes walk among us. Sometimes, they’re standing in checkout lines.

🔥 Station 3 Spotlight 🔥

Yes, it’s scorching out there, welcome to summer in full gear. But heat or not, that’s no excuse to skip the fundamentals. Our newest rookie, Mr. Jang, is getting a full dose of what it really means to serve, and we're proud to say the Station 3 crew has gone above and beyond to make sure he’s not just learning the ropes but mastering the art of firemanship.

Beyond hose drills and basic routines, Mr. Jang’s been immersed in the full rhythm of the station: ventilation runs, rescue simulations, gear maintenance, hydrant coordination, you name it. The kind of training that builds instinct, not just skill.

And yes, he’s been staying smart in the heat: plenty of water, plenty of rest, and never compromising safety for hustle.

Shoutout to the Station 3 crew for embracing mentorship and setting the tone for what it means to wear that uniform with pride. Mr. Jang, you’ve got a solid crew behind you.
