Advanced Photonics Research Institute

Advanced Photonics Research Institute Advanced Photonics Research Institute (APRI, 고등광기술연구소) is an national institute, which belongs in Gwangju Institute of Science and Technology (GIST).

It has 11 divisions which are mainly based on optical sciences. APRI was established in 2001 and succeeded to develop 1.0 PW, 30 fs titanium sapphire laser in 2010. The peak power of 1.0 PW (1000 trillion watt) is the world record and this high power laser is expected to give world record results in particle acceleration, x-ray generation, and other new sciences.
