🌿 WHIPIC × IUCN: A New Partnership for Natural Heritage Interpretation!

WHIPIC and IUCN have signed an MOU to strengthen cooperation in the field of natural heritage interpretation.

Through this partnership, WHIPIC and IUCN will explore cooperation in research, capacity building, expert networking, and the sharing of knowledge and good practices.

🌏 WHIPIC Fellows and Interns reunited!

On the occasion of the 48th Session of the World Heritage Committee, WHIPIC Fellows and Interns came together again to share their experiences and work under the theme “World Heritage Interpretation with Communities.” They also visited the World Heritage site of Tongdosa, exploring community engagement and the values of living heritage in practice.

Synergies between Tangible and Intangible Heritage: Integrated Approaches to Heritage Management in East Asia

WHIPIC and ICHCAP successfully co-hosted a side event during the 48th session of the World Heritage Committee in Busan, Republic of Korea, with support from the UNESCO Regional Office for East Asia.

Following a keynote presentation by Duong B**h Hanh (UNESCO Regional Office for East Asia) on the synergies between tangible and intangible heritage, participants explored two case studies from Mongolia and the Republic of Korea:

• Great Burkhan Khaldun Mountain and its Surrounding Sacred Landscape
Odonchimeg Enhktuvshin (Administration of the Khan Khentii State Special Protected Area)

• Beyond Intangibility Alone: Safeguarding Jeju Haenyeo Culture through Tangible–Intangible Heritage
Wonseob Song (Jeju National University)

More than 130 heritage professionals from 95 organizations across 33 countries came together to exchange perspectives on integrated approaches to heritage management.

📣 [WHIPIC Side Event at the 48th World Heritage Committee]

From Principles to Practice: Reimagining Heritage Interpretation Together

On 24th of July, WHIPIC successfully hosted a side event during the 48th session of the World Heritage Committee in Busan, Republic of Korea.

The event shared key outcomes from WHIPIC’s five-year research journey (2022–2026) and explored future directions for the Centre’s development.

The highlight of the event was an open discussion focused on the draft Principles and Guidelines for Heritage Interpretation and Presentation for heritage sites.

Around 130 participants from across the globe took part in the event, and heritage professionals from diverse backgrounds shared their experiences and provided valuable feedback to further refine the draft Principles and Guidelines.

🌐 WHIPIC continues its efforts to establish practical and internationally applicable principles and guidelines for heritage interpretation and presentation.

지난 24일, WHIPIC은 제48차 세계유산위원회 부대행사 성과공유회 및 워크숍을 성공적으로 개최했습니다. 본 행사는 지난 5년간(2022~2026) 센터가 추진해 온 유산 해석 연구의 주요 성과를 공유하고, 앞으로 센터의 발전 방향을 모색하는 뜻깊은 자리였습니다.

특히 「유산 해석과 설명 원칙과 지침(안)」을 주제로 한 공개 토론(Open Discussion)에서는 세계유산 분야 관계자 약 130명이 참여해 현장 경험과 다양한 의견을 공유하고, 보다 실효성 있는 유산 해석 원칙으로 발전시키기 위한 논의를 이어갔습니다.

🌐 WHIPIC은 이번 논의를 바탕으로 세계유산 현장에서 활용 가능한 ’유산 해석과 설명 원칙과 지침‘을 확립해 나가겠습니다.

As part of the 48th Session of the World Heritage Committee, WHIPIC will host seven side events. These events will bring together heritage professionals from around the world to discuss the current and future of heritage interpretation.

The programme will explore topics including strengthening cooperation among UNESCO World Heritage Category 2 Centres, the principles and practice of heritage interpretation, digital technologies and heritage interpretation, and integrated approaches to heritage management in East Asia.
