Deputy Chief of Mission Elenore Kang and First Secretary Soon Ying were delighted to welcome the Singapore Armed Forces Central Band Clarinet Ensemble to Seoul last month!

The Ensemble was in town for ClarinetFest 2026, an annual festival that brings together clarinet musicians from around the world, where they premiered two new commissions — Three Folk Songs for Clarinet Quintet and Homemade Recipe: Ayam Buah Keluak — written by Singaporean composers Kelly Tang and Emily Koh.

The visit also included an exchange with the ROK Ministry of National Defence (MND) Band, which featured a tour of the Band's facilities, a hands-on experience with Korean traditional musical instruments, and performances by both ensembles.

Transcending language, music has always been a powerful bridge between peoples and cultures. The Embassy looks forward to seeing our musicians continue to forge meaningful connections through the arts, and will continue to support cultural cooperation that deepens the vibrant people-to-people ties underpinning the Singapore-ROK Strategic Partnership. 🇸🇬 🎶 🇰🇷

엘레노어 강 공관차석과 순잉 1등서기관은 지난달 서울을 방문한 싱가포르군 중앙군악대 클라리넷 앙상블을 반갑게 맞이했습니다.

앙상블은 세계 각국의 클라리넷 연주자들이 한자리에 모이는 연례 음악 축제인 ‘클라리넷페스트 2026’ 참가를 위해 서울을 찾았습니다. 이번 축제에서는 싱가포르 작곡가 켈리 탕과 에밀리 고가 각각 작곡한 신작 「클라리넷 5중주를 위한 세 개의 민요」와 「홈메이드 레시피: 아얌 부아 켈루악」을 초연했습니다.

방문 기간에는 대한민국 국방부 군악대와의 교류도 진행됐습니다. 앙상블은 군악대 시설을 둘러보고 한국 전통 악기를 직접 체험했으며, 양측 앙상블도 서로를 위한 연주를 했습니다.

엘레노어 강 공관차석은 최근 싱가포르 에너지시장청의 프아 콕 켱 청장이 이끄는 Executive Development and Growth Exchange(EDGE) 프로그램 대표단을 만나 서로의 의견을 나누는 뜻깊은 시간을 가졌습니다. 일주일간의 연수 일정으로 서울을 방문한 EDGE 대표단은 지속가능성과 도시 혁신을 비롯해, 복합용도 개발과 도시재생에 관해 한국 측 관계자들과 견해를 교환했습니다.

A meaningful exchange of ideas marked Deputy Chief of Mission Elenore Kang’s recent engagement with a visiting delegation from the Executive Development and Growth Exchange (EDGE) programme, led by CEO of Singapore’s Energy Market Authority Mr Puah Kok Keong. The EDGE delegation was in Seoul for a week-long study visit to exchange views with its ROK counterparts on sustainability and urban innovation, as well as mixed-use development and urban regeneration.

싱가포르 통상산업부(MTI)와 싱가포르 기업연합회(SBF)는 7월 23일, 제조업과 헬스케어, 석유화학, 전문서비스의 20여 개 기업이 참여한 한·아세안 자유무역협정(AKFTA) 업계 설명회 및 의견수렴 행사를 공동 개최했습니다. 이번 행사는 AKFTA가 발효 이후 약 20년 만에 처음으로 전면적인 개선이 추진되고 있는 가운데 마련됐으며, 참석 기업들은 변화한 경영 환경을 반영해 협정을 현대화하기 위한 의견을 공유했습니다.
MTI는 이번 행사를 함께 준비한 SBF에 감사를 전하는 한편, 개방적이고 규범에 기반한 무역체제를 지지하고, 아세안과 한국 간 무역·경제 관계를 계속해서 강화해 나갈 것을 밝혔습니다.

The Ministry of Trade and Industry (MTI) and the Singapore Business Federation jointly organised the ASEAN-Korea Free Trade Area (AKFTA) Industry Outreach and Consultation on 23 July 2026, bringing together over 20 companies across the manufacturing, healthcare, petrochemicals, and professional services sectors.

The consultation session was held at an important moment, as the AKFTA is undergoing its first comprehensive upgrade since entering into force nearly 20 years ago. Companies shared their feedback on how the agreement can be modernised to better reflect the realities of today’s business environment. Their views will help inform Singapore’s negotiating approach as we work to ensure Singapore‘s free trade agreements remain effective instruments in supporting the competitiveness, resilience, and growth of our businesses.

MTI remains committed to supporting an open, rules-based trading system and working with our partners to strengthen trade and economic relations between ASEAN and South Korea.

MTI would also like to thank the Singapore Business Federation for their partnership in organising the engagement. We welcome companies to provide further feedback through the AKFTA Public Consultation, which will be launched shortly.

“앞으로 외교관을 꿈꾸는 학생들에게 어떤 조언을 해주고 싶으신가요?”

지난주 웡 카이 쥔 대사가 한문화진흥협회가 주최한 ‘유스앰버서더 아카데미 여름캠프’에 참여한 중·고등학생 120명과의 대화에서 받은 질문 중 하나였습니다.

웡 대사는 이와 같은 질문을 비롯해 여러 가지 질문에 답변하면서, 학생들이 싱가포르를 주제로 준비한 발표도 경청했습니다. 싱가포르-한국 및 아세안-한국 관계, 인공지능, 지속가능발전, 디지털화 등 폭넓은 주제를 아우르는 활기찬 시간이었습니다.

웡 대사는 이들 학생과 같은 청년들이 국가 간 상호 이해와 우정을 증진하는 데 매우 중요한 역할을 한다는 점을 강조했습니다.

주한 싱가포르 대사관은 웡 대사가 밝고 활기찬 학생들을 만날 수 있는 기회를 마련해 준 한문화진흥협회에 감사의 뜻을 전합니다.

한편 웡 대사에게 한국 음식과 싱가포르 음식 가운데 하나씩 골라 ‘퓨전 음식’을 만든다면 어떤 음식을 만들고 싶으신지 묻는 질문도 주어졌습니다. 웡 대사의 답은 냉면과 사테였습니다.

“What advice would you give to students who are aspiring to be diplomats in future?”

This was one of the questions that Ambassador Wong Kai Jiun had to address last week when he engaged 120 secondary school student participants over an interactive dialogue as part of their Youth Ambassador Academy Summer Camp, organised by the Korean Culture Association.

Ambassador Wong had the pleasure of answering the above question and many others, as well as listening to the presentations made by the students about their research on Singapore. It was a lively session, covering wide-ranging topics such as Singapore-ROK and ASEAN-ROK relations, artificial intelligence, sustainable development, digitalisation and more.

Ambassador Wong also emphasised the important role that youths like these students play in fostering mutual understanding and friendship between countries.

The Singapore Embassy would like to thank 한문화진흥협회 Korean Culture Association for inviting Ambassador Wong to have this opportunity to meet these bright and lively students.

Ambassador Wong was also asked what fusion food he would like to create if he could combine a Korean dish with a Singaporean one. His reply was naengmyeon (cold noodles) and satay. What would your answer be? Feel free to pen your responses in the comments section below!

Last week, Ambassador Wong had the pleasure of attending the opening ceremony of THE COLLECTIVE, JustCo’s newest centre at Parc.1 in Yeouido.

With the opening of this new centre, JustCo’s presence has expanded and now covers all three of Seoul‘s core business corridors — the Central Business District, Gangnam Business District, and Yeouido Business District. This marks a significant milestone for the flexible workspace provider, seven years after it first entered the ROK market.

The Embassy is pleased to see a homegrown Singaporean enterprise like JustCo successfully expand its operations abroad, including here in the ROK. We look forward to further continued growth of Singaporean businesses in the ROK, and for ROK businesses to similarly thrive in Singapore. 🇸🇬🇰🇷

Strategic communications, public engagement, crisis management, countering misinformation, and digital transformation -- these are just some of the many different topics that a delegation of Singapore public servants engaged their ROK counterparts on during their study visit to Seoul earlier this month.

The visit was co-organised by the Singapore Civil Service College and the ROK‘s National Human Resource Development Institute (NHI), and was also an opportunity for the delegation to strengthen their understanding of and links with the ROK.

While they were in town, Ambassador Wong Kai Jiun had an interactive dialogue with the delegates, and shared updates on Singapore-Korea relations.

We would like to thank the NHI and all the Korean agencies that hosted the Singapore delegates for making their study trip such an enriching experience.

Last week, Singapore Ambassador Wong Kai Jiun and Deputy Chief of Mission Elenore Kang attended the “Shiok in Seoul” networking event — an AI mixer organised by the Ministry of Digital Development and Information alongside the 2026 International Conference on Machine Learning (ICML) in Seoul — where they connected with AI talents and researchers.

AI, at its core, is a collaborative endeavour. This mixer therefore serves to bring together experts and representatives of leading research institutions, providing a platform to explore opportunities, and for Singapore to support these connections. The Singapore Embassy in Seoul looks forward to supporting similar efforts, and to fostering greater connections between AI talents from Seoul and Singapore.

Singapore’s delegation for the Korea-Singapore FTA (KSFTA) upgrade talks, led by Chief Negotiator Tan Lui Hai, met its ROK counterparts last week in Seoul for discussions aimed at delivering a mutually beneficial upgrade.

Our joint efforts to upgrade the KSFTA - the ROK’s first FTA in Asia - represent a shared commitment to free trade, and to modernising our collaboration so that it can meet the challenges of a rapidly changing global trade environment.

The Embassy looks forward to a KSFTA upgrade that will benefit the peoples and business of both our countries! 🇸🇬🇰🇷

Did you know? Seoul Eonnam Elementary School has a special link to Singapore!

Its traditional arts troupe, comprising elementary school students brimming with energy and enthusiasm, performed at Singapore’s Chingay Parade in February last year. Their performance, which showcased Beona-nori (plate-spinning) and Chwita (traditional military music), was very warmly received by their audience. 👏

Ambassador Wong was pleased to visit the school last month to keep up its links with Singapore. 🇸🇬🇰🇷 There, he watched a colourful Korean traditional arts performance by the troupe, and also had a productive meeting with the school‘s leadership to learn about how it is integrating AI and digital technologies into its curriculum.

The Singapore Embassy in Seoul extends its appreciation to Seoul Eonnam Elementary School for hosting our visit. We wish the students all the best in their studies, and look forward to more cultural exchanges between Singapore and the ROK in future!

푸 치 샤 싱가포르 외교부 제2차관은 이번 주 초 서울에서 열린 제30차 한-아세안 대화에 싱가포르 대표단을 이끌고 참석했습니다. 푸 차관은 아세안 측 고위급 대표들과 대한민국 외교부 정의혜 차관보 겸 아세안 고위관리회의 대표와 생산적인 논의를 가졌습니다.

푸 차관은 한-아세안 대화를 계기로 최형찬 국립외교원장과 오찬을 갖고, 오늘날과 미래의 빠르게 변화하는 도전에 대응할 수 있도록 외교관을 교육하고 역량을 갖추게 하는 방안에 대해 의견과 경험을 교환했습니다.

푸 차관은 싱가포르 디지털개발정보부와 총리실 산하 스마트네이션 청의 제2차관도 겸임하고 있어, 본 방한을 계기로 류제명 과학기술정보통신부 제2차관과 면담을 가졌습니다. 양측은 인공지능을 포함한 디지털 분야의 급속한 발전에 대해 논의하고, 이 분야에서 양국 간의 더욱 긴밀한 협력이 필요하다는 점을 재확인했습니다.

주한 싱가포르 대사관은 싱가포르가 아세안 의장국이자 한-아세안 대화조정국을 맡게 되는 2027년을 앞두고, 대한민국 파트너들과 긴밀히 협력해 나가기를 기대합니다.

Second Permanent Secretary for Foreign Affairs Foo Chi Hsia led Singapore‘s delegation to Seoul for the 30th ASEAN-ROK Dialogue earlier this week. She had productive discussions with her ASEAN counterparts, as well as with ROK Deputy Foreign Minister and ASEAN Senior Officials’ Meeting Leader Cecilia Chung.

On the sidelines of the Dialogue, she also met Chancellor of the Korea National Diplomatic Academy Choe Hyoung-chan over lunch to exchange views and experiences on the training and equipping of diplomats to deal with the rapidly evolving challenges of today and tomorrow.

In her other concurrent capacities as Second Permanent Secretary for Digital Development at the Singapore Ministry of Digital Development and Information as well as for Smart Nation at the Prime Minister’s Office, she also met Second Vice Minister of the Ministry of Science and ICT Ryu Je Myung. They discussed the high-pace developments in the digital sphere - including AI - as well as reaffirmed the need for closer cooperation between both countries on this front.

The Embassy looks forward to working closely with our ROK partners, especially as we head towards 2027 - a year during which Singapore assumes the ASEAN Chairmanship as well as country coordinatorship of ASEAN-ROK dialogue relations!
