PHILIPPINES PITCHES INVESTMENT OPPORTUNITIES AND INCENTIVES AT THE PHILIPPINES KOREA BUSINESS FORUM

Seoul, 27 August 2026 – The Philippine Embassy and the Philippine Trade and Investment Center (PTIC)-Seoul convened the Philippines–Korea Business Forum at the Korea Chamber of Commerce and Industry, bringing together more than 40 representatives of Korean companies and business organizations. The forum presented investment opportunities and practical guidance on incentives, taxation, financing and regulatory requirements in the Philippines.

Philippine Ambassador to the Republic of Korea Bernadette Therese C. Fernandez said the Philippines–ROK Free Trade Agreement provides a stronger foundation for trade, investment and industrial cooperation. She invited Korean companies to combine their capital and technology with the Philippines’ young, skilled and English-speaking workforce. Philippine economic zones, she noted, offer Korean firms a competitive platform to diversify production, address labor constraints and expand across ASEAN and the wider Asia-Pacific region.

PEZA Director General Tereso O. Panga identified high-value manufacturing, semiconductors, shipbuilding, tourism, infrastructure and green technologies as promising areas for Korean investment. Nearly 200 Korean companies already operate in PEZA economic zones, directly employing approximately 44,000 Filipinos. He highlighted the Philippines’ talent pool, established supply chains, global connectivity and enhanced incentives under the CREATE MORE Act.

Experts from BDO Unibank, Asian Consulting Group, the Industrial Bank of Korea and Aboitiz Economic Estates briefed participants on the Philippine economy, tax reforms, banking and financing, overseas investment requirements and strategies for managing manufacturing risks. PTIC-Seoul Commercial Attaché Charmaine Mignon S. Yalong moderated the forum, which formed part of the Philippine Investment Mission to the ROK held from 24 to 28 August 2026. END

The Philippine Embassy in Seoul, together with the Migrant Workers Office (MWO) and the Overseas Workers Welfare Administration (OWWA), invites the Filipino community in South Korea to the Alagang OWWA: Health, Wellness & Serbisyo Caravan on 13 September 2026 at Marronnier Park, Jongno-gu, Seoul.

The one-day activity brings together various Philippine government agencies and Korean partner institutions to provide accessible government, labor, social welfare, health and wellness, legal, financial, and other essential services to Filipinos in South Korea.

Participants are encouraged to check the posters for the complete list of participating agencies, available services, and documentary requirements.

WOOJUNG EDUCATION AND CULTURE FOUNDATION AWARDS SCHOLARSHIPS TO PHILIPPINE STUDENTS
우정교육문화재단, 필리핀 학생들에 장학금 수여

26 August 2026, Seoul — The Woojung Education and Culture Foundation has selected five Filipino students as recipients of its scholarship program for the second semester of 2026, recognizing their outstanding academic achievements, leadership qualities, and commitment to community service.

The five Filipino scholars include two returning Woojung scholars and three new recipients. The returning scholars are Mr. Jasper Roldan Go, a PhD student in Biomedical Sciences at the Seoul National University, and Mr. Van Aldren Canas, an integrated Master’s/PhD student in Animal Biotechnology at the Dankook University.

The three new scholars are Mr. Jerico Bolide, a Bachelor's in Global School of Liberal Studies student at Seoul National University of Science and Technology; Ms. Maria Sophia Criste, a Master’s/PhD student in Biomedical Science student at Soonchunhyang University; and Ms. Hazel Olive Parmes, a Master’s student in Civil and Environmental Engineering student at Kongju National University.

The scholars were selected following a thorough evaluation process by the Woojung Scholarship Committee, based on their academic excellence, leadership potential, and dedication to serving their communities.

In his welcome speech, Chairman Dr. Lee Joong-keun of the Woojung Education and Culture Foundation expressed his sincere gratitude to the Ambassadors, diplomatic representatives, and Foundation officials for attending the scholarship award ceremony. He warmly welcomed the international students who left their beloved home countries to pursue their academic and professional aspirations in Korea.

Chairman Lee also highlighted his designation in February as President of the United Nations Association of the Republic of Korea. He reflected on the countries that supported and defended Korea during the Korean War, underscoring the enduring bonds of friendship and solidarity between Korea and the international community.

In her congratulatory remarks, Ambassador Bernadette Therese C. Fernandez, on behalf of all governments represented by the Ambassadors and Deputies at the ceremony, conveyed sincere felicitations to Chairman Lee, the Woojung Education and Culture Foundation, and the Booyoung Construction Group for their tireless efforts to provide much needed financial assistance to deserving students and promote excellence in education in the Republic of Korea.

Ambassador Fernandez likewise reaffirmed the longstanding friendship and partnership between the Philippines and Korea – relations forged and strengthened by a shared commitment to peace, freedom, and democracy. She recalled the Philippines’ historic decision to stand alongside Korea during the Korean War, a testament to the enduring bonds between the two countries and their peoples.

The scholarship award ceremony was held on August 26, 2026 at the Korea Chamber of Commerce and Industry Building in Seoul. The ceremony brought together 98 scholarship recipients from 32 countries, members of the Board of the Woojung Education and Culture Foundation, officers from the Booyoung Construction Group, and members of the diplomatic community in Korea.

The gathering celebrated the scholars’ academic achievements while highlighting the importance of supporting international students who contribute to Korea’s diverse academic and cultural community.

Since 2010, the Woojung Education and Culture Foundation has awarded scholarships twice a year to international students studying in Korea. Through the program, the Foundation seeks to promote academic excellence and provide financial assistance to deserving international students pursuing higher education in Korea.

The Embassy of the Philippines in Korea warmly congratulates the five Filipino scholars on this significant achievement. The Embassy likewise expresses it sincere appreciation to the Woojung Education and Culture Foundation and the Booyoung Construction Group for their continued support for Filipino students and their steadfast commitment to advancing educational opportunities for international students in Korea. PHILIPPINES ADVANCES WOMEN MSMEs, DIGITAL ECONOMY PRIORITIES AT ASEAN-ROK IDEAS EXPO
필리핀, ‘아세안 여성 소상공인 엑스포( ASEAN-ROK IDEAS EXPO)’서 여성 소상공인·중소기업 및 디지털 경제 분야 우선 의제 강조

SEOUL, 25 August 2026 — The Philippines advanced its ASEAN 2026 priorities on women’s economic empowerment, MSME development and digital transformation at the IDEAS Project: ASEAN Women MSMEs Acceleration Expo in Seoul. Ambassador Bernadette Therese C. Fernandez delivered congratulatory remarks before senior representatives of ASEAN and the Republic of Korea, stressing that women and MSMEs must be at the center of regional growth and must gain better access to finance, technology, skills and markets.

Ambassador Fernandez also met Philippine women entrepreneurs and businesses that benefited from the IDEAS Project, which has helped women-led MSMEs across ASEAN strengthen their digital capabilities and participate in e-business. She encouraged entrepreneurs to use the Expo not as the end of a project but as a platform to find partners, understand the Korean market and transform local ideas into businesses capable of reaching customers across borders.

Representing the Philippines in the Expo’s policy panel, Second Secretary and Consul Reisha L. Olavario outlined key Philippine ASEAN Chairship initiatives aimed at making regional integration work more effectively for smaller businesses. These include the integration of the ASEAN MSME development agenda, the proposed ASEAN Centre of Excellence for MSMEs, the expected signing of the ASEAN Digital Economy Framework Agreement in November, and an ASEAN Leaders’ Declaration on AI-Powered MSME Growth. She called for ASEAN–ROK cooperation to move beyond digital training toward digital competitiveness by connecting technology with finance, markets, logistics, intellectual property protection and business networks.

The Embassy also highlighted the contribution of Philippine partners such as Bayan Academy and Women Biz PH, working to advance women’s entrepreneurship as part of the country’s broader ASEAN 2026 agenda. The Philippines continues to champion an ASEAN economy where women-led MSMEs are better equipped to use technology, reach customers across borders, create jobs and compete in the regional and global marketplace.
