Humanitarian workers save lives. Their vital work shouldn’t cost them their own.

This , we honour the 350 aid workers killed last year and reaffirm our commitment to protecting those who help others.

On this day, 36 years ago, Kuwait was invaded. Eight days later, former Prime Minister Bob Hawke announced Australia’s decision to join the US-led Coalition to liberate Kuwait. Along with coalition partners, Australian efforts played a significant role in restoring peace and security to Kuwait and the region. Today, we honour the dedication of those who served and remember the resilience of the Kuwaiti people.

Conflict in the Middle East has escalated in recent days, with military strikes and reprisal attacks occurring in a number of locations across the region. Prioritise your safety, monitor events and follow local advice - including any warnings to take shelter or avoid locations at high risk of targeting. Airspace closures and flight disruptions can occur with limited notice. Travel advice levels can go up quickly if conditions deteriorate.

We continue to advise reconsider your need to travel to Bahrain, Israel, Kuwait, Qatar and the United Arab Emirates. Higher levels apply in some areas. Do not travel to Iran, Iraq, Lebanon, Palestine, Syria and Yemen.
