Deputy Premier and Minister for Tourism & Trade Development, Hon. Gary Rutty, joined members of the local and international diving community on Friday, September 4th for the 2026 International Scuba Diving Hall of Fame Induction Ceremony, celebrating individuals whose passion, innovation and service have made a lasting contribution to the sport and industry.🤿

The evening recognised this year’s distinguished International Inductees, alongside Cayman’s own Local Honourees and Emerging Honouree — celebrating both the pioneers who have helped shape diving and the next generation carrying its legacy forward. ⚓️

In delivering remarks and participating in the presentation of awards, Deputy Premier Rutty reflected on the important place diving holds within the Cayman Islands’ tourism story, and the people whose dedication has helped establish our Islands as a world-renowned diving destination. 🐠

The Ministry extends its sincere appreciation to the Department of Tourism, the ISDHF Board of Directors, partners and industry stakeholders whose continued support makes this annual celebration possible. 🥳

In his World Tourism Day message, Deputy Premier and Minister for Tourism & Trade Development, Hon. Gary Rutty, reflects on Cayman’s approach to that changing landscape — embracing innovation while ensuring that our people, culture and environment remain at the heart of the Cayman Islands experience.

Because technology may change how people discover and experience our Islands, but it can never replace the warmth of a Caymanian welcome.🇰🇾

Deputy Premier and Minister for Tourism & Trade Development, Hon. Gary Rutty, visited Cayman Brac today, alongside Chief Officer Stran Bodden, and Cayman Airways' Executive Vice President, Finance & Commercial Affairs, Paul Tibbetts to meet with the Hon. Nickolas DaCosta, Minister for District Administration & Home Affairs, fomer MP Mr. Moses Kirkconnell, and key importers and members of the Cayman Brac business community. 🙌🏼

Discussions focused on the current import needs of local businesses and in gauging stakeholder interest in a dedicated Cayman Airways cargo service between Miami and Cayman Brac. The Ministry thanks all those who participated and shared their perspectives as these discussions continue.✈️

As the Ministry continues to advance its Trade Development portfolio, direct engagement with the business community is an important part of understanding where opportunities exist to strengthen trade links, improve the movement of goods and support economic activity across all three Cayman Islands. 🇰🇾

As the Cayman Islands observes Preparedness Week, 16–23 September, we’re encouraging everyone across our three Islands to take some time to review their emergency plans. 🙌🏼

Take some time this week to make sure you:

🏠 Know the location of your nearest hurricane shelter
🚗Have plan for how you will get there if necessary
💊 Ensure you have an adequate supply of essential and prescription medications
🔦 Have battery-operated flashlights and radios AND spare batteries
🥫 Have adequate ready-to-eat, non-perishable foods
💧 Store sufficient drinking water for every member of your household - Hazard Management Cayman Islands recommends one gallon per person, per day
💵 Keep a reasonable amount of emergency cash somewhere safe and accessible.
📄 Protect passports, insurance information and other important documents in waterproof containers.

Preparedness is not about waiting until a storm is approaching. It is about having a plan, knowing where to find reliable information and making sure you and your family have what you need before an emergency occurs.🙌🏼

For hurricane preparedness guides, shelter information and other resources, visit CaymanPrepared.ky. Residents can also register for HMCI's National Emergency Notification System (NENS) to receive verified emergency alerts. 🇰🇾

Deputy Premier and Minister for Tourism, Hon. Gary Rutty, and Minister for PLAHI, Hon. Johany “Jay” Ebanks, recently conducted a site visit at the Cayman Turtle Centre. 🐢

The Ministers toured the property with members of the management team, including Mr. Raymond Hydes, gaining a first-hand look at the facilities and discussing plans and opportunities to enhance the attraction and strengthen the visitor experience.🙌🏼

A highlight of the visit was meeting Mr. Malachi Anglin, a longstanding member of the Turtle Centre team, and recognising his many years of service to an attraction that has been part of Cayman’s tourism story for generations. 💙

Thank you to the management and staff of the Cayman Turtle Centre for hosting the Ministers and sharing their plans for the attraction’s continued development. We look forward to continuing to enhance the attraction for residents and visitors alike! 🇰🇾

Kristianna recently had the honour of representing the Cayman Islands at the Miss World competition in Vietnam, proudly carrying our flag and representing our Islands with grace, dignity and national pride on the international stage. 🇰🇾

It was a pleasure to join the community in celebrating her return and recognising this special chapter in her journey.✨

📢The Ministry of Tourism & Trade Development is inviting suitably qualified persons to apply for the position of Financial Accountant.

The successful candidate will work closely with our Chief Financial Officer and Deputy Chief Financial Officer across key areas including financial reporting and audit, accounts payable and receivable, budgeting and reconciliations, asset management, financial controls and stakeholder engagement. 🗂️

🎓 Candidates should hold a Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting or a finance-related field with a minimum of five years’ relevant experience, or an Associate Degree with at least seven years’ relevant experience. Professional accounting qualifications such as CPA, ACCA or CA are desirable.

💰 Salary range: CI$67,260 – CI$88,248

Held throughout the year, these meetings provide an important forum for SAGC leaders to update the Ministry and Department of Tourism officials on developments within their respective organisations, including ongoing initiatives, operational priorities and performance.📈

Regular engagement with our SAGCs strengthens communication and coordination across the portfolio and supports our shared commitment to delivering effectively for the people of the Cayman Islands. 🇰🇾

As the summer comes to a close, we extend a heartfelt thank you to our three summer interns — Marisa Dunbar, Kayla Jeffers and Paris Barnes — for their enthusiasm, hard work and valuable contributions to the Ministry of Tourism & Trade Development.💥

Throughout their internships, these three talented young Caymanian women gained practical experience within the tourism and trade development sector, working alongside our teams in areas directly related to their respective fields of study. In turn, we valued the opportunity to support their professional development and learn from the fresh perspectives and ideas they brought to the Ministry.🥳

As Marisa and Paris return to their studies, we wish them every success in the academic year ahead and look forward to seeing where their talents take them.📚
