It was a privilege to attend my first Public Accounts Committee (PAC) hearings as Deputy Governor and Head of the Civil Service. The hearings focused on the report of the Office of the Auditor General (OAG) on outstanding OAG and PAC recommendations.

I was happy to update the Committee that the vast majority of these recommendations have now been addressed or are in progress. Equally important, I outlined the new strategy, processes and tools the Civil Service leadership has implemented to deal with future recommendations, and our fruitful discussions with the OAG to ensure we can both be aligned on a more risk-based approach.

Strengthening accountability and ensuring recommendations are proactively and effectively addressed will remain a primary focus for me as we continue to improve how we serve the people of the Cayman Islands.

For hatchling turtles, entanglement and entrapment in litter and other debris on the beach represent some of the most serious threats they face on their journey from nest to sea. 🐢🌊

Turtle Nesting Season has been underway in the Cayman Islands for several months now, and the Department of Environment continues to ask the public to help keep our beaches clear of litter; a bottle cap, a wrapper, or a stray loop of fishing line left behind can be the difference between a hatchling reaching the water and never making it.

Working together was the central theme as Premier Hon. André Ebanks met with fellow Caribbean Overseas Territories leaders in Bermuda.

The three-day Caucus focused on shared priorities affecting people across the Territories, including the cost of living, health and social care, climate change, financial services and trade.

Leaders agreed to advance their shared positions collectively ahead of the United Kingdom Joint Ministerial Council in November and to continue strengthening regional collaboration.

The Cayman Islands will host the next Caucus meeting in 2027.

The preservation of dedicated spaces like Llewellyn House that celebrate Caymanian traditions, stories and experiences help communities stay connected to who we are, while strengthening national pride and preserving the values that shape our Islands.

By creating opportunities to preserve culture and history through projects like the George Town Revitalisation Initiative, we can showcase and celebrate culture and heritage, Government continues to support spaces that keep Caymanian identity visible and connected across generations.
