George Town Landfill will close at 1:00 PM on Monday, JuneMay 4th,2026.

🚫 No derelict vehicles or scrap metals will be accepted for reception on this day at the landfill or the scrap metal recycling facility.

⌚ Hours of operation will remain as usual at both landfills in the Sister Islands.

🗑 Regular garbage collection and recycling operations will be as normal throughout the Cayman Islands on this public holiday.

📍 A 24-hour drop-off site will be located at the entrance of the George Town landfill, remaining open to facilitate the disposal of small amounts of waste from residential customers, if necessary.

The DEH thanks all residents for their cooperation and participation in this year’s Bulk Waste Collection Schedule. Your efforts helped keep our communities clean and our islands beautiful.

Did you miss the deadline?
Please make private arrangements to transport any remaining bulk items to the landfill.

Report any illegal dumping and littering to the DEH or the RCIPS. This unlawful practice can result in a penalty of 6 months of imprisonment and a minimum fine of $500.

📍 Action: This is the final week of the program! Get those heavy items to the curbside.

We are confirming that the localized fire that occurred earlier today in the lithium-ion battery storage area of our facility is fully under control.

The situation was immediately managed by our on-site safety teams and local fire services.

We can confirm the fire is extinguished and the area is secure and the facility remains operational.

The Department of Environmental Health (DEH) advises the public that a small surface fire was observed earlier this morning at the George Town landfill.

Cayman Island’s Fire Service and DEH personnel responded promptly upon discovery of the incident, and the fire was quickly extinguished, bringing the situation fully under control in a matter of minutes. The fire originated in recently tipped waste and the ignition source is unknown at this time.

The Department confirms that there is no risk to nearby residents, businesses, or the surrounding environment. Site conditions continue to be monitored as a precautionary measure and DEH’s ongoing mitigation works continue.
