The Cayman Islands continues to mourn the loss of a remarkable public servant, Mr Ernie Scott, whose life and career were marked by nearly five decades of unwavering dedication to the people of these Islands.
Mr Scott was laid to rest on Saturday, 24 May 2025, leaving behind a legacy of leadership, service, and deep commitment to the Sister Islands. Beginning his public service in 1973, he rose through the ranks of the civil service and was appointed District Commissioner in 2007 — a position he held with distinction until his retirement in 2021.
In addition to his broader contributions to public life, Mr Scott served as Deputy Supervisor of Elections for the Sister Islands from the 2004 General Elections until his recent illness. In this role, he was a trusted steward of the democratic process, ensuring that elections were conducted with integrity, transparency, and fairness. His steadfast dedication to good governance and the rule of law earned him the respect of colleagues and the wider community alike.
Mr Ernie Scott will be remembered not only for his significant contributions to public administration and civic life, but also for the humility, strength, and compassion with which he served.
The Elections Office extends its deepest condolences to his family, friends, and all who were privileged to work alongside him.
