We want to keep you clearly informed on the situation following the landfill fire on 16 April.
🔎 Current Status
• The incident remains a major fire event, with emergency teams actively responding
• Air quality readings are currently good across surrounding communities
• Welfare checks have been completed and N95 masks distributed
• Esterley Tibbetts Highway is open with no traffic disruptions
• A full reassessment is underway today to determine next steps
🚒 Government & Emergency Response
The Government is working closely with the Cayman Islands Fire Service, Department of Environmental Health, RCIPS, and Hazard Management teams.
Fire crews continue containment efforts, while environmental teams are covering landfill areas to reduce flare-ups and smoke.
