💜 Thank You for Standing Up Against Elder Abuse

The Department of Children and Family Services (DCFS) extends its sincere thanks to everyone who supported this year's World Elder Abuse Awareness Day (WEAAD) outreach activities.

Over the past week, our team visited communities across Grand Cayman, hosting information booths at Foster's Airport Centre, Foster's Republix, Foster's Countryside, Foster's Camana Bay, and Health City. We were encouraged by the many residents of all ages who stopped by to learn about the signs of elder abuse, available support services, and the important role each of us can play in protecting older persons.

These photos from our visits to Foster's Camana Bay, Foster’s Republix, and Health City reflect the strong community spirit and shared commitment to ensuring older persons are treated with dignity, respect, and care.

While World Elder Abuse Awareness Day may be over, the message continues. Together, we can help prevent and end elder abuse by raising awareness, speaking up, and supporting the older persons in our families, neighbourhoods, and communities.

🚨 Beware of current Fraudulent Text Scam and spread the word to your contacts, especially those most vulnerable who may not be aware and not on social media. ‼️

⚠️ The Cayman Islands Postal Service is warning the public about a fraudulent text message claiming that a parcel cannot be delivered until customs duties are paid.

This message is a scam.
✖️ Do not click the link.
✖️ Do not make any payment.

The link provided in these messages is not associated with the Cayman Islands Postal Service or any Cayman Islands Government entity.

The scam has already affected members of our community, with several reports received and one individual losing a significant amount of money.

If you receive one of these messages:
- Delete it immediately.
- If you have clicked the link or made a payment, contact your bank without delay.
- Report the incident to the RCIPS by calling 949-4222, or 911 in an emergency.

⚠️ Remember: The Cayman Islands Postal Service and Cayman Islands Government entities will never request payment of customs duties or fees via text message.

💜 See you at Foster's Camana Bay today!

As part of DCFS's World Elder Abuse Awareness Day outreach activities, our team will be at Foster's Camana Bay from 11:00 AM to 2:00 PM today sharing information on how to recognize, prevent, and report elder abuse.

These photos highlight some of the wonderful community members who stopped by our information booths on Thursday to learn more, complete our awareness activity sheets, and share ways they can help protect older persons in our community.

💜 The next generation is speaking up for our seniors.

As part of our Elder Abuse Awareness outreach at Foster’s Airport Centre and Foster’s Republix, community members of all ages took a moment to share how they can help stand up against elder abuse.

We were especially inspired by the thoughtful responses from some of our young visitors in West Bay. Their messages were simple, powerful, and a reminder that respect, kindness, and protection of older persons can start at any age.

📝 “Identifying right and wrong, and reporting it.”
📝 “Helping them with things.”
📝 “Call 911.”

These young voices demonstrate that everyone has a role to play in keeping our older persons safe and valued.

Thank you to everyone who stopped by our information booths to learn more about recognizing, preventing, and reporting elder abuse. Together, we can build a community where older persons are treated with the dignity, care, and respect they deserve.

💜 Standing Up Against Elder Abuse, One Voice at a Time

Community members stopped by the Department of Children and Family Services (DCFS) information booth at Foster's Airport Centre to share their thoughts on how we can all help prevent elder abuse.

Using our awareness worksheets, participants shared simple but meaningful actions such as showing respect, offering support, checking in on seniors, and, as one participant wrote, "taking care of them." ❤️

Every action counts when it comes to protecting the dignity, wellbeing, and safety of older persons in our community.

💜 World Elder Abuse Awareness Day – Know the Signs. Speak Up. Take Action.

Every older person deserves to live with dignity, respect, and safety. This World Elder Abuse Awareness Day, the Department of Children and Family Services (DCFS) is raising awareness about the warning signs of elder abuse and encouraging our community to help protect vulnerable seniors.

⚠️ Warning Signs of Elder Abuse May Include:

• Unexplained injuries, bruises, or frequent accidents
• Sudden changes in behaviour, mood, or withdrawal from social activities
• Poor hygiene, malnutrition, or unmet medical needs
• Unusual banking activity or missing money and possessions
• Fearfulness, anxiety, or reluctance to speak in the presence of a caregiver
• Signs of neglect or unsafe living conditions

Elder abuse can be physical, emotional, financial, sexual, or neglect. If you suspect an older person may be experiencing abuse, don’t stay silent.

As part of World Elder Abuse Awareness Day, DCFS representatives will be hosting community information tables across the Islands from 16–22 June. The public is invited to stop by, meet with our team, learn about elder abuse prevention, and discover available support services.
