Department of Children & Family Services Foster Care
DCFS provides foster care as a temporary safe place if a child cannot live with his/her family. Adopting a child can be a most rewarding experience.

Care and Protection
The department is mandated to investigate, assess and monitor all cases that involve child abuse: neglect, sexual, physical and emotional abuse of children. This can be a short, medium or long term placement in foster care. Children enter foster care because of neglect, abuse, a family crisis, or the child's acting out at home. Foster parents provide foster children with stability, affection, consistency, and nurturing. Children usually continue to visit their own families until they may be reunited. If this is not possible, family members and other persons important to the child are contacted to see if they can give a permanent home to the child. Sometimes foster families are asked to provide permanent foster care or may seek to adopt the child in their care. Adoption
Adoption is a service which provides parents for children who cannot be brought up by their birth families. It is about providing a child with a permanent, loving and legally secure home with parents who are committed to the child’s welfare. The Adoption of Children Law sets out the procedures for adoption of children. Custody Assessments
As officers of the Courts, DCFS assist with providing home study reports as requested by the Grand Court on matters involving the care and day to day control of child child/children of a marriage or relationship. These reports are very comprehensive and assist the courts with making decisions in the best interest of the child/children. Means assessments
DCFS assist the courts by conducting means assessments and providing reports to the Maintenance and Affiliations Court on the relevant parties that have applied to the said court for maintenance. Counselling
Counselling is an important part of social work intervention with children and families to help them work through whatever the issues they are experiencing. Counselling may be done on a one on one basis or with a family, depending on the situation and needs of the individual and the family. Mediation
The Department at times must engage in mediation to address a range of family issues in order to assist families to resolve issues ranging from care and well- being of children or elderly relatives. Family Services
This includes social work intervention with families affected by domestic violence or elderly abuse.

Today, we celebrate the youth of the Cayman Islands — their ideas, creativity, ambition and determination to make a difference.

This afternoon’s event hosted by the Youth Services at the Intergenerational Hub brings children, teens and families together for an afternoon of games, connection and discovery, with a free Game Truck and interactive activities alongside community partners.

The Department of Children and Family Services (DCFS) is proud to be part of the newly formalised Multi-Agency Public Protection Arrangement (MAPPA), bringing key Government agencies together to strengthen information sharing, risk assessment and the coordinated management of high-risk sexual and violent offenders.

For DCFS, this partnership reinforces our commitment to protecting those who may be most vulnerable and ensuring safeguarding concerns are addressed through a joined-up, multi-agency approach.

💜 Thank You for Standing Up Against Elder Abuse

The Department of Children and Family Services (DCFS) extends its sincere thanks to everyone who supported this year's World Elder Abuse Awareness Day (WEAAD) outreach activities.

Over the past week, our team visited communities across Grand Cayman, hosting information booths at Foster's Airport Centre, Foster's Republix, Foster's Countryside, Foster's Camana Bay, and Health City. We were encouraged by the many residents of all ages who stopped by to learn about the signs of elder abuse, available support services, and the important role each of us can play in protecting older persons.

These photos from our visits to Foster's Camana Bay, Foster’s Republix, and Health City reflect the strong community spirit and shared commitment to ensuring older persons are treated with dignity, respect, and care.

While World Elder Abuse Awareness Day may be over, the message continues. Together, we can help prevent and end elder abuse by raising awareness, speaking up, and supporting the older persons in our families, neighbourhoods, and communities.

This message is a scam.
✖️ Do not click the link.
✖️ Do not make any payment.

The link provided in these messages is not associated with the Cayman Islands Postal Service or any Cayman Islands Government entity.

The scam has already affected members of our community, with several reports received and one individual losing a significant amount of money.

If you receive one of these messages:
- Delete it immediately.
- If you have clicked the link or made a payment, contact your bank without delay.
- Report the incident to the RCIPS by calling 949-4222, or 911 in an emergency.

⚠️ Remember: The Cayman Islands Postal Service and Cayman Islands Government entities will never request payment of customs duties or fees via text message.

As part of DCFS's World Elder Abuse Awareness Day outreach activities, our team will be at Foster's Camana Bay from 11:00 AM to 2:00 PM today sharing information on how to recognize, prevent, and report elder abuse.

These photos highlight some of the wonderful community members who stopped by our information booths on Thursday to learn more, complete our awareness activity sheets, and share ways they can help protect older persons in our community.
