Global fintech company Aspora is establishing its EU base in Vilnius, Lithuania.

Lithuania is more than agile. It is a startup nation.

A recent Computer Weekly feature explores how a country of just 2.8 million people has built one of Europe's most dynamic technology ecosystems.

Since 2020, the value of Lithuania's technology ecosystem has grown sixfold to €16.4 billion. More than 70,000 people work in ICT, and six Lithuanian-founded companies have reached unicorn status.

But the story goes beyond the numbers. Limited access to venture capital has encouraged Lithuanian founders to make the most of limited resources and build for international markets from day one.

From Vinted and the "Vinted effect" to Nord Security, a thriving fintech sector and technology hubs such as Cyber City, Lithuania's innovation ecosystem continues to produce companies that compete successfully on the global stage.

Rugpjūčio 2-ąją, Romų genocido atminimo dieną, prisimename 1939–1945 m. nacių persekiotus ir žudytus romų tautybės žmones.

Romų genocidas nusinešė apie 500 tūkst. Europos romų gyvybių. Manoma, kad nacistinės okupacijos metais Lietuvoje nužudyta apie 500 – kas trečias Lietuvos romas.

2019 m. Seimas rugpjūčio 2-ąją paskelbė Romų genocido aukų atminimo diena, taip atkreipdamas Lietuvos visuomenės dėmesį į šią dar vis gana menkai žinomą nacių nusikaltimo istoriją. Romų genocidas negali būti užmirštas.

Lithuanian defence startup BROSWARM has been recognised by Forbes as “the defense startup betting on peace.”

Founded in 2023, the company is developing a drone-mounted radar system to detect buried landmines and unexploded ordnance, helping make post-conflict areas safer for returning communities.

BROSWARM won the 2024 NATO Innovation Challenge, while another Lithuanian defence startup secured second place – further highlighting the strength of Lithuania’s rapidly growing defence innovation ecosystem.

Lithuania is turning threat proximity into a defense-tech cluster. The harder test is whether ownership and strategic value remain at home.

Lithuania is moving forward with plans to develop a modern film studio in Vilnius, aiming to strengthen the country’s rapidly growing audiovisual sector and attract larger international productions.

Already the regional leader in audiovisual production volumes, Lithuania’s sector generated a record €208 million in turnover in 2025 and has grown by an average of 19% annually since 2017. To build on this success, the government has committed to developing audiovisual production infrastructure in Vilnius by 2030.

The initiative aims to attract more international productions, boost investment, create highly skilled jobs, and reinforce Vilnius' position as a key film production hub in the Baltic and Nordic markets.
