Message for U.S. Citizens: Visit of Consular Officer to Luang Prabang
Greetings from the U.S. Embassy in Vientiane! This message is for all U.S. Citizens in the Luang Prabang area.
On September 22, from 4:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m., a consular officer will be available at the MyBanLao Hotel to provide limited American citizen services. All U.S. citizens in the area interested in consular consultations, applying for U.S. passports, or obtaining notary services should email [email protected] with the subject line “Consular Services in Luang Prabang.” Please explain your requested service to reserve an appointment slot. The consular officer cannot provide services for U.S. Consular Reports of Birth Abroad (CRBAs) during this visit.
Passport renewal customers must complete a U.S. passport application form and provide their current U.S. passport, a photocopy of the passport biodata page, a 2” x 2” (51 x 51 mm) passport photo – with a white background – taken within the past six months, and exact payment in cash (LAK or USD). Fees paid in LAK will be at the current consular exchange rate of 20,000 LAK to 1 USD. Additional rules apply for applicants for renewal of a child’s passport. For a child’s passport application, please bring the original and photocopies of both parents’ passports and the child’s Consular Report of Birth Abroad or U.S. birth certificate. Please note that applicants must pick up the passport when ready at the U.S. Embassy in Vientiane. Applicants may designate a third party to pick up their passports at the time of application only.
