This blood donation event is organized jointly by the United Nations and European Union in Lao PDR to commemorate World Blood Donor Day, support ongoing efforts to address critical blood shortages in Lao PDR, and directly respond to the increased demand for blood during dengue fever outbreaks in the rainy season.

Investing in people is investing in Lao PDR’s future.

In 2025, the United Nations worked with the Government and partners to strengthen access to health care, nutrition, education, clean water and sanitation services across the country.

Strides were made in improving essential services. More than 621,000 nutritionally vulnerable people received UN support, access to basic water services reached 96%, and sanitation coverage rose to 89%. Nearly 375,000 children received preventive nutrition services, while treatment sites for severe acute malnutrition nearly doubled nationwide.

Support also helped strengthen maternal and child health services, including training midwives serving remote communities, improving immunization systems across all 18 provinces, and expanding HIV treatment coverage. In education, efforts focused on helping children stay in school, strengthening teacher training, advancing inclusive learning and supporting digital transformation in classrooms.

Behind these numbers are communities working toward a healthier, safer and more resilient future.

A historic chapter for UNV Laos! 🇱🇦✨

Last week, we reached a milestone 43 years in the making. Since our establishment in 1983, we were honored to welcome UNV Executive Coordinator, Mr. Toily Kurbanov, to Laos for the very first time.

This visit was more than just a series of meetings; it was a powerful testament to the enduring value of volunteerism. Thank you for leading by example and ensuring that no country is left behind.
