The Ministry of Industry and Commerce of Lao PDR has successfully concluded the Lao Competitiveness and Trade Project (LCTP) in Vientiane Capital. The LCTP significantly reduced the barriers to private sector-led growth through improving the regulatory environment with better and more inclusive policies, reducing trade costs, and increasing firm-level competitiveness. The project was financed with $10 million IDA credit and $9.5 million from the Multi-Donor Trust Fund with funding from the Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade (DFAT) Australia, Ireland, and the United States Agency for International Development (USAID).

The Permanent Secretary Office, Ministry of Industry and Commerce (MOIC) organized a training workshop on “Leadership and Strategic Communication for the Public Sector” under the support from the Lao Competitiveness and Trade Project (LCT) for high level management team of the MOIC including minister, Deputy Ministers, Director Generals, Deputy Director General under MOIC.

The training workshop covers the key skills and tools that public sector leaders need to communicate effectively and strategically with a range of stakeholders and ensure that they provide the most relevant information to people through their preferred medium to achieve the desired outcomes. The workshop aims will help its participants develop and sustain organizational goals through strategic communication.

The Ministry of Industry and Commerce (MOIC) and the United States Agency for International Development (USAID) convened the 9th Project Review Committee Meeting of the USAID Laos Business Environment Project (LBE) in Vientiane. The meeting's principal objectives were to review the results of project implementation for 2024 and discuss priorities for the project work plan for 2025. Dr. Manothong Vongsay, Deputy Minister, MOIC, and Mr. Michael McCord, USAID Country Representative to Laos, co-chaired the meeting. Participants included the Project’s key government and private sector focal points, project counterparts, and development partners.
