As part of Fishermen Feast celebration, the fisher folk of Canaries indicated interest to meet with NIC to understand how they can benefit. After the session today, a few fishermen were disappoint that they had passed the age limit to join the NIC and so, encouraged the young fishermen to join as they can still reap the rewards of becoming registered. Thankfully today the fishermen also for the first time met with the newly select board of the Anse La Raye Canaries Fishermen Cooperative. There they also learnt about the support that the cooperative offer fishers. After all it was a fun fill educational day for the fishermen. Stay tuned for the other activities planned to commemorate the hard working fishermen of the community of Canaries.

This week we met with the fishermen of the community. During that time we were able to discuss the issues the fisher folk face on a daily basis. Together, we came up with solutions to ease some of their frustration. We also had the opportunity to start a discussion about the upcoming fishermen feast which is celebrated in the month of June. Look out for the exciting events that will be taking place next month with the fishermen. We are also open to any suggestions and support in any way.

Ms. Ophilia who resides in Flora Villa, has gone through a life changing experience which has caused her to be Mobility impaired. We’ve made it our duty to construct a path to and from her home where in case of an emergency persons are able to move freely.

We’ve noticed that the public facilitiy on Dix Street nearest to the beach is the frequently used one throughout the community. We thought it was necessary to provide a sense of comfortability and privacy to its users.

Therefore we’ve commenced repairs where 9 toilets are being replaced and 4 bathrooms are being retiled. Rest assured that we will provide you with an update on the end result. See pics below ❤️

As many of us know fishing is the largest source of income within our community, over the weekend our focus was to clear the beach of debris and to cut down a tree to avoid hindrance to the local fishermen movement.

We encourage you to make use of the residential garbage collection every Monday & Friday, to promote cleanliness within our community as it comes at an expense of us all, these Small projects are beneficial to all of us.

See Pics below. ❤️

To aid persons with reduced mobility within this area of Belvedere, we’ve completed yet another small project. This very narrow pathway was cleared and rebuild in the event that paramedics or a rescue team would have to pass through we’ve made the maneuvering process smoother.

Below are some before and after pictures to give you a clear insight. We thank you again for you continued support❤️ little things always matter.

Today the world celebrates International Women’s Day under the theme “Gender equality today for a sustainable tomorrow.”
Women continue to work towards an environment that is equitable, inclusive, free from bias and discrimination so that the playing field is leveled to afford all women the same privileges as men.
No longer are women confined to responsibilities at home. They are empowered to take on different roles causing them to predominate society.
As we commensurate today, it is imperative to make mention of all the phenomenal women who have made the community of Canaries proud.
The Canaries Constituency Council urges all to remember the women who have contributed to the upliftment of our village.
Our hope is for women to increase visibility, make better choices and encounter fewer barriers.
As you have come across this post, answer in the comment section; What does equality mean to you and state its importance.
