This week Saint Lucia has experienced frequent periods of heavy rainfall, possibly more than we have from the beginning of the year. We welcome the rain as it aids in maintaining acceptable water levels at WASCO's catchment facilities and the reservoir at the John Compton Dam.

How does this benefit you? Once treated, you have greater access to potable water.

How can you help conserve potable water?

During the dry season Saint Lucia tends to experience periods of water shortages.

Even as we transition into the wet season, June - November, water conservation remains paramount as heavy rainfall can negatively impact water quality due to increased runoff into bodies of water, namely the John Compton Dam. These sediments and chemical/ physical pollutants overwhelm the nation's water treatment processes and hamper our water supply.

Let's discuss the measures you've taken thus far to conserve water and optimise bouts of rainfall. How do you ensure your access to water during these periods?

Last week, our CEO, Mrs. Skeeta Gibbs, participated as a distinguished panelist alongside experts in telecommunications and public utilities. The discussion, focused on the "Planning and Managing of the Digital Transformation Experience: Regulatory Tools to Support the Digital Economy, Innovation, and Trade," delved into the multifaceted challenges and opportunities posed by the evolving digital landscape.

This thought-provoking exchange was part of a two-day event hosted by the Caribbean Chapter of the International Institute of Communications (IIC) under the theme "Empowering Small Island States: Innovations and Regulatory Strategies for a Connected Future."

The meeting offered insights into the "strategic challenges in an increasingly converged regulatory environment and the adoption of transformative technologies" where key discussions revolved around shared concerns, including the threats and security of artificial intelligence, cybersecurity, data privacy, emerging threats of digitalisation, and the growing influence of big tech, all within the unique context of small island states.

Such collaborative forums are essential for knowledge sharing and the exploration of innovative and mutually beneficial solutions which align with our islands' national policies.
