Castries Constituency Council

Castries Constituency Council Castries, the principal town of St. Lucia, is the seat of government and is situated at the eastern extremity of the beautiful harbour which bears its name.

In maritime circles it is better known as Port Castries. It was originally called “Carenage” or petit Cul-de-Sac because it was a land-locked harbour used for careening ships while under repairs, and in the days of sail when wind-jammers roamed the Caribbean, this safe service earned for Port Castries the descriptive Virgilian legend: “Statio Haud Malefida Carinis”. This is as true today as it ever was: a safe anchorage for ships.

Her Worship, Geraldine Lendor Gabriel meets with Captain Wousdel Louis of the Salvation Army to discuss areas of collaboration and to recommit mutual interest in providing for the needs of the indigent in our society. The Salvation Army has in the past provided relief for victims of natural disasters, fires and various worthy causes. The two organizations have joined forces over the years on various projects and the meeting served to solidify plans to continue. Captain Wousdel was also updated on ongoing plans for the establishment of a home which will cater to the needs of the less fortunate. The Castries Constituency Council is grateful to the Salvation Army for its philanthropic efforts and we look forward to working with Captain Wousdel and his team.

Wednesday 21st September, 2022

The Castries Constituency Council finalizes the purchase of two brand new vehicles which will be added to the fleet.

The additon of these two vehicles is extremely timely as the council continues to fulfill two of its key mandates; ensuring that communities remain clean and the safety of residents. The vehicles will be assigned to the Sanitation and City Police units respectively.

The Castries Constituency Council takes this opportunity to thank its Accounts unit as well as key private sector stakeholders for the collective efforts in bringing these plans to fruition.

Douvan ansanm! Annou selebre pwogre komin pa komin” . This was indeed a true and fitting name for the independence baton exercise. The Castries City Constituency Council as a member of the local government team participated in this truly rewarding experience. It was an opportunity for us to showcase our day to day heroes who contribute and continue to contribute to the development of Castries. From Castries North to Castries East, Castries South to Castries Central we all came to present a great tribute to people of those communities. To this end we showcased what makes each constituency unique – our local heroes and sites as well as the sounds of calypso and soca all used to tell the story of our history, culture, challenges and successes. It was indeed a memorable 43rd independence anniversary for the Castries Constituency Council.

The Castries Constituency Council played a very instrumental role in preparing the Entrepot Human Resource Development Centre for its renaming as Romanus Lansiquot Human Resource Development Center.
We were indeed happy to have been part of this process, for us it meant providing much-needed attention to a community facility. It also means recognizing the contribution of a community stalwart someone who has contributed meaningfully to the development of the community. An important outcome of this activity is to work together so that this human resource Center serves it's purpose which is the development of the human resource of the Marchand and Entrepot communities.

The Mayor of Castries alongside a team from the Castries Constituency Council (CCC) , Saint Lucia National Housing Corporation (NHC) , and the Saint Lucia Solid Waste Management Authority (SLSWMA) on January 7th, 2022 undertake a joint tour of problematic areas with respect to waste management within the NHC housing Complex in the city.

During the process, the team also interacted with residents and commercial establishments to receive much needed feedback and recommendations on collection action which can be taken to added concern.

The areas visited included the CDC housing areas, Barnard Hill, Darling Road , Chaussee Road. The Manager of the National Housing Authority Mrs. Sidonia Childs noted that this activity was a demonstration of how state agencies must come together to address common challenges. Mr. Cassian Henry who headed the SLSWMA’s team also saw this as a useful exercise which he indicated should be replicated in other areas.

The agencies took a number of decisions which when implemented would help address the poor waste management challenges in the areas visited.
