What does it take for innovation to thrive?

To further examine that question, the HE Innovate Assessment is now underway in Saint Lucia under the OECS Skills and Innovation Project (OECS SKIP).

The assessment will examine how innovation and entrepreneurship are supported within Saint Lucia's post-secondary institutions, with a focus on areas such as leadership, teaching and learning, digital transformation, partnerships and institutional impact.

By engaging educators, administrators, students and other stakeholders, the assessment will help identify strengths, uncover opportunities for improvement and support efforts to create environments where innovation can flourish.

The insights gathered will contribute to ongoing work to strengthen innovation capacity, foster collaboration and ensure that post-secondary institutions are equipped to support the skills and ideas needed for future growth and development in Saint Lucia.

Engagement with industry stakeholders continues under the OECS Skills and Innovation Project (SKIP). The project implementation team and operators in Saint Lucia’s maritime sector recently met to discuss workforce and training needs within the blue economy.

These consultations form part of ongoing efforts to ensure programmes being developed at local post-secondary institutions remain aligned with current labour market demands and the evolving needs of industry. The engagement also supports ongoing work under Sub-component 2.2 of the project, which focuses on strengthening training programmes and enhancing learning opportunities in priority sectors.

Through direct discussions with employers and industry professionals, OECS SKIP is seeking to identify the practical skills, knowledge and competencies required in priority areas such as the blue economy, sustainable agro-industry and smart and sustainable tourism.
