Embracing Modern Technological Interventions in Environmental Governance: Ministry of Environment Launches Official WhatsApp Service.
Taking a progressive stride toward safeguarding Sri Lanka’s ecosystems and securing a sustainable, verdant future, the Ministry of Environment has officially launched its new WhatsApp service via the hotline 070 250 950 9, establishing a direct communication channel for the public. Driven by the vision "A Sustainable Biosphere, An Evergreen Life," this digital initiative aims to actively engage citizens in environmental conservation while ensuring swift institutional responses. The platform is structured around three core pillars: facilitating Inquiries regarding environmental matters, enabling the Reporting of illegal ecological activities, and fostering public Participation in conservation initiatives. To ensure a scientifically rigorous, precise, and accelerated resolution process, the Ministry will prioritize documented evidence, comprehensive reports, and photographic verifications submitted by the public.
This initiative aligns with the Government’s strategic policy paradigm, which views environmental conservation not merely as an isolated bureaucratic mandate but as a collective responsibility rooted in active civic engagement. By introducing this dedicated WhatsApp hotline, the Ministry aims to streamline administrative barriers, bridging the conventional gap between citizens and state mechanisms.
The platform empowers the public to report real-time, field-level environmental degradation and submit eco-friendly innovations or policy feedback directly to the authorities. By seamlessly converging technology with civic responsibility, this pragmatic framework marks a significant communication milestone in steering Sri Lanka's environmental governance toward greater transparency, accountability, and inclusivity.
As safeguarding our natural heritage remains a collective national duty, the Ministry of Environment earnestly invites all Sri Lankans to collaborate in this national mission to foster a cleaner, greener, and healthier Sri Lanka. The public is encouraged to digitize and forward their environmental concerns, factual reports, and constructive proposals via text message (Message Only) to the official WhatsApp number: 070 250 950 9.
