𝐏𝐫𝐚𝐭𝐡𝐢𝐛𝐡𝐚’𝐬 𝐁𝐖𝐀𝐏 𝐏𝐫𝐨𝐣𝐞𝐜𝐭: 𝐂𝐫𝐞𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐎𝐩𝐩𝐨𝐫𝐭𝐮𝐧𝐢𝐭𝐢𝐞𝐬 𝐁𝐞𝐲𝐨𝐧𝐝 𝐌𝐞𝐫𝐞 𝐀𝐝𝐯𝐨𝐜𝐚𝐜𝐲
At the Miss World competition, the Beauty with a Purpose (BWAP) initiative defines a delegate’s true heart. Representing Sri Lanka, Prathibha Liyanaarachchi has elevated this stage far beyond simple awareness or fundraising. Through her project, Hoop The Label, she addresses a core systemic challenge facing local artisans across the island, summarized in her profound realization:

As a graduate of the University of Moratuwa and a professional technical designer, Prathibha recognized that Sri Lanka’s rural craftswomen possess extraordinary skill but lack access to viable commercial markets.
Rather than offering short term charity, she founded Hoop The Label to bridge native craftsmanship with modern design frameworks, technical guidance, and direct market channels. By converting untapped traditional talent into sustainable micro-enterprises, she has empowered mothers and rural women to earn dignified livelihoods.
This initiative holds deep significance for Sri Lanka as a nation. It preserves our rich cultural heritage while actively driving grassroots economic development and self reliance. Prathibha’s hands on involvement goes beyond advisory support, extending directly into disaster relief, educational support, and community development. Her work demonstrates that real empowerment happens when talented individuals are given the structural opportunities to thrive on their own merits.
